|
|
Hi guys,
I just got a 2014 naish force 6.2. I've been having a hard time tuning it properly and wonder if anyone has similar issues / advice. I'm trying to rig it on a 430 maui sails 100% carbon mast. the sail says to use a +15 extension, however i've found it necessary to use a slightly longer (+18-19) extension in order to downhaul properly. i've been using the recommended boom length, however the sail feels very flat when it fills up. i've tried reducing the outhaul to the point where the sail is a hair away from pressing against the boom while full, however it doesnt seem to solve the problem. before this sail i had a maui sails global - i took the force 6.2 out in conditions where i think i would have been planing on my global 5.4 and just felt stuck.
any suggestions greatly appreciated...
thanks,
ethan |

Why ask or trust a stranger on this forum? Contact the manufacturer if you don't find a rigging guide for YOUR sail in the sail bag or online. |

Let's start with your mast. I have quite a few Naish sails including Forces from 4.2-5.0 & none of them like Mauisails mast very much. Come to think of it, none of the Mauisails sails I've owned liked the Naish mast much either. As you have discovered, you are going to have to play around with rigging the sail to get it to work but it will never feel right, at least I could never get mine to feel the way I want.
Masts that have worked well for my Naish Forces are Naish, Ezzy & No Limitz.

Here you go. But without the proper mast, good luck getting the proper leech tension & battens laying properly on the mast at the same time.

Big Winds in HR is a Naish dealer.
the Naish shop in Hawaii would be a source also, the US distributor would not be much help IMO.

Mauis sails masts are very stiff top, among the stiffest. Naish sails used to be stiff as well, they have moderated some see this chart, its not a 100% guide never fail but useful nonetheless.

I think based on the extra down-haul required, the Maui sails mast is too stiff top ...PERIOD.
Myself in 6.0 and above I dont use wave sails, but YMMV.
Puffin, Fiberspar are not sold here anymore. _________________ K4 fins

Didn't know that.
Well I'm glad to see the windsurfing industry getting stupider...let's all have noncompatible masts because the sport needs to be more complicated and expensive. Such a beautiful sport. Such shit for brains. _________________ Michael

I have a quiver of naish sessions. I rig them on two neil pryde skinny masts,
which have a soft bend curve at the top. They rig and sail great for me. The maui sails mast is among the stiffest at the top. So as others have stated, I'm pretty sure the mast is your problem. It is frustrating, that all these masts have the same numbers, but rig differently on different sails. |

Another mast you could try is Powerex. I use Powerex SDM for my Naish Sprints for a perfect match but I've never tried a Powerex RDM on my Forces.
As a footnote, a brand new Mauisails mast might work. As I understand it they converted their 2014 line to CC bend.
