Perhaps this may help someone, I usually sail alone so I can't just look out there and see what size sail everyone is on so I rely on a handheld wind meter.
I had purchased a cheap little meter for about $30 but after a few months it started making a grinding noise and the reading was way off so i sent it back but the new one started doing the same thing. I sprayed it with silicone then it turned too easy and the reading was too high.
I did a tiny bit of research and came up with the Kestrel 1000, made in USA, waterproof with a five year warranty and the little spinner is replaceable. it cost $74 but hopefully it's the last one I will buy for a least five years.
If you have an iphone by all means buy the one marketed by iwindsurf to support them but I don't have a smartphone, I'm not giving up my casio gzone waterproof phone with tide chart. |
