There are sail bags out there that are in fact kit bags. Made of sail bag material but wide enough at one end to hold the boom. Mine is a Kona and has a light zipper at the boom end.
If you go down several flights of concrete stairs in windy conditions, you get high chances of scratching your boom grip or sail. Minimal protection can help. I've also seen Bic bags like that. I suspect you could find one free or even make yourself one from discarded sail bags. |

Take two of the cloth bags used by many for grocery shopping, put one end of the sail & the two mast pieces in one bag, use the other bag for the other end, tie the straps of both bags together with a long line, sling the mast/sail package under one arm, carry the boom, harness, & extension with the other arm. I have not tried this since I don't have the problem. We do use quite a few of those cloth grocery bags. |

Update: I tried some of the tips today for first time and they worked like a charm.
I stuck the mast sections and rolled sail into one of the harness lines and then used the outhaul rope for the second loop of support. I carried the extension with the other hand. I also secured the uphaul by placing the free mast base loop around one opened boom adjustment lever.
The staircase is about 3 1/2 flights with turns so this was a good test.
Thanks again to everyone for the help and tips. |
