At the Regina in Cabo San Lucas. Have sailed Los Barailles but not this side of The Cape. I brought my high performance long board and 6.5 luffable sail. Any suggestions for a place to launch? The beach break here is mean and the wind is light. Looking for sweet spot for parking, launching without getting spanked and not having to slog to the wind line. Any suggestions(from experience) would be appreciated. Taunts and jibes(no pun intended) tolerated only if you're buying the beer.

i sailed a sunfish off medano beach in cabo san lucas once in early june. very safe and freindly spot.

Actually. There's pretty much always wind there, Cape Effect.

It's pretty offshore, and really gusty as it come over and around the rocks or straight offshore down the arroyo.

The only real launch is at Playa Mediana-- the big arroyo.

There are a lot of hazards, drunk jetskiiers and so on, downwind at the other end of the bay is surf big enough that you will be crushed or drowned if you end up broken down. But there's a ton of boats that 'should' prolly pick you up long before you reached that.

It's actually kinda fun.

where is playa mediana?

playa medano is the main beach in cabo san lucas. there was some old windsurf gear for rent at the end of the hotels. it wasn't quite windy enough for windsurfing so i opted for the sunfish.

Sorry, Medano, yes.

By the way, there is no wind at all in San Jose Del Cabo, just near the cape at Cabo San Lucas.

Zippers can get windy enough for a 5.8-6.3 and a 100ltr board.

My buddy kited just up the beach from Zippers a couple of times - I think February and October? It always seems like it's long board windy enough around there, especially in the afternoon. I've always wished I had a sail for my SUP. The shore break can be kinda rough, though, depending on the season and the swell.
