We certainly have seen a number of windy days so far this spring. With the water temperatures heading towards 55f, and the air temperatures forecasted for 60, the New Jersey Windsurfing & Watersports Association is offering you an Opening Day to Spring Into Windsurfing on Sunday, May 4. 10am-4pm
The Flats of Barnegat Bay can literally offer miles of waist deep water to make your blown jibes and leaky wetsuit a little more tolerable. http://www.windsurfnj.org/sites/seaside.htm
As we all get appropriately rigged and tuned in to the days conditions (SW 15-25mph, 6.5- 5.0m2?), we’ll have fun playing following the leader, making a conga-line of windsurfers snaking their way back-and-forth across the bay. Maybe some hearty souls will want to take a long-distance excursion across the bay towards Trixies on a NW wind, or try close reaching the 7 miles towards Johnny Allens Cove on a WNW wind, towards the other end of Island Beach State Park? Or just head halfway across the bay to the “A” marker.
If the wind is lacking, then Stand-Up Paddleboarding will be a great way to explore the coastline.
All scallywags are invited to Après Windsurfing 5pm up the road at Bum Rogers Crabhouse, 23rd Ave & Central (Rt. 35), for some of their world famous garlic crabs to start.
