Yes, I considered that Craig, along with doubts about the students sanity, but I remember that in the 80's we used to 'wang wellies' with our epoxy masts on windless days. (Who says it wasn't fun in thgose days! Laughing ) So I wouldn't put it past students to cheat.

But an even better one was the great grasshopper discovery. It was concluded that grasshoppers sensory perception lay in their legs. When disturbed they jumped away, but on surgical removal of said legs they didn't. Ergo, case proven!

Doesn't it make you proud to be a member of the human race, when such fearless inquiring minds are going about their studies!

This thread is a convention of people who either hate windsurfing or are utterly clueless. Every time anyone posts here they shine a spotlight on

"More depressing anecdotal evidence of windsurfings decline"

What are you thinking? Do you want to drive people away? If something else is on your mind start a thread that isn't titled "we're such a bunch of losers". Let iso have the last post. Close this misery down. Please.

What on earth PP? (Hate windsurfing = clueless losers .)

In context. I was out today in incessant heavy rain and a stiff NE onshore blow, confined to a smallish lagoon area because a raging onshore surf infested sea, with not one other person (windsurfer, surfer, kiter ) anywhere in sight. WHERE WERE THEY?

If after over thirty years of windsurfing (and years of surfing before that) I'm still fired up enough to just be out there in utter crap conditions, why was nobody else???? Or was I just blinded by the driving rain and failed to spot all these keen and eager newbies having the times of their lives?

Anecdotal perhaps, but that's how it was! (And IS!)

Sounds great! Full of stoke! (I love messy weather sessions). Why not start a new thread about great sessions, or good sessions, or decent sessions, or something remotely worthy, instead of "more depressing evidence of windsurfing's decline". Why keep hoisting to the top of the forum this whining lament? For people who might wish that windsurfing was gaining, not declining, woudn't something that sounded like it was posted by a windsurfing enthusiast be a better idea?

Because I get depressed Puffin. I haven't changed, but everybody else seems to have. Where once we had large numbers out whatever the conditions (Summer winter rain snow whatever) it's now dwindled to precious few at our real world location, with usually only myself on the water when conditions are poor. (As today.)

I'm with Jingerbritson in that a wrong turning was taken, which has worked against bringing in newbies. As a result numbers have steadily dwindled below that critical mass to sustain the necessary enthusiasm to just get out there when conditions are poorer, as they frequently are in the real world. In the last two years, three of our older long termers have sold up, and moved to cycling. They tired of just waiting for the right conditions for their over specialised boards.

The irony is that S.U.P. is now the growing sport bnringing in newcomers. Talk about coming full circle! But at least, I don't need to buy one. I have three good old longboards and have lots of unfinished business with them. (Islands - coastal journeys - playing in tide races- playing with dolphins= anbd much more).) That itch will never be fully scratched.

But wouldn't it be nice if, instead of being the only one, a fleet of keen windsurfers would join in. Fat chance though - it's not the image!

its a great time to be a windsurfer.. never been so many options.

Nina and I were at Duxbury Bay today. One other windsurfer stopped by when we left, but we had not seen him on the water. A few kites were up (on the ocean side, I think) when we came.

Monday had quite a good crowd at Kalmus - probably more than 20 windsurfers overall. Quite a few of those present were ABK addicts, but at least one parent-kid team was also seen on the water, and other "newer" sailors working on beach starts etc. Not too bad for a slightly chilly day with rain showers into the early afternoon.

Some of the bostonians were at Waquoit bay on Monday, some at Kalmus.

Declining? Not for me!
I recently got a new job and moved to Boston _because_ I knew I could windsurf here. SF will be next Smile
The only one thing I am upset about that I cannot sail every day because I have a new job. But it will change too.

Why don't you get t-shirts made that say:

Want depressing anecdotal evidence of windsurfings decline? Ask me!

Perhaps you could get sail stickers made saying this, and put them on all your gear.

Let's spend some time thinking of the ways you can promote the idea that windsurfing is dying. You can accelerate it's demise by maintaining a steady stream of negative thought, which is obviously your goal. I know its your goal because any time this thread starts to drop down the page (and out of the line of site of people who are still interested in windsurfing) you post in the thread to bring it back to the top of the page. That's commitment.

I'm out of this thread. I'm going to go play with the people who are pro-windsurfing. Posting in this thread, IMHO, is anti windsurfing. And let me save everyone the trouble of making the doofus statement "you realize that you yourself Puffin are therefore anti windsurfing?"

Yeah, the joke is on me.

Get t-shirts made, really.
