Ballet, keeps the core strong and helps with jumping/landing. SUP, SUP surfing and surfing keep me in decent shape during the off season.

I can only guess by "hard" you mean people who rig grossly underpowered & have to constantly pump to a plane as opposed to a "passive" sailor who rigs grossly overpowered so he never has to pump, than yes, people who sail hard get a workout.

But in earnest, the concept of metabolizing fat rather than glucose has many advantages, including far longer sessions and days. Our glycogen stores last only an hour or two if we're not working too hard, but even skinny people have fat stores good for days of effort.
