It really helped me, so I'm sharing my experience here. I used duct tape around the wrist as a seal.

Another option: I switched to Atlas gloves a few years ago. They cost $6 at the hardware store, last as long as the DaKine, and are thinner. I use Nitrile 370 but they come in many options. They are used a lot in dinghy/olimpic classes.

The best tip for dealing with blisters that I ever got was to use skin cream after a session and at night. Nivea works well and is absorbed quickly; the stuff you use for baby butts works even better. I may see blisters starting to form at the end of the day, but they usually disappear completely over night. I generally sail without gloves, even at ABK camps, and almost never get blisters that are still visible the next morning. That's even true if I did not get to sail much for a month or so before a Bonaire camp, and the calluses on my hands are mostly gone.

Being meticulous about harness line balance will save you lots of hand wear (and arm wear). Don't underestimate the price your hands pay for a lot of slight pulling and pushing. When Jason Voss was Andy's #2 with ABK he's say "lifting one pound 1000x is the same as lifting ten pounds 100x. It's going to wear you out." (yeah it's not literally the same, but the point re blisters holds up.)

Wow, I give a thumbs-up to the Atlas glove suggestion here. I hadn’t been on the water for a couple months and was planning a full-day session on salt water to work on some moves. I was concerned that my hands would blister quickly, so I bought some Atlas Nitrile 370 gloves. They worked very well for me ... no blisters at the end of the day. The gloves are grippy, they are thin enough to provide good feel and not tire your hands, they are thick enough to not tear, and their mesh back lets water flow out. They even come in multiple. Olors, for those who want it all. For me, these worked even better than double-gloving.

For those of us who sail in temperate fresh water, it's the switch to warm salt water that kills your hands. The Bonaire sailors don't get blisters like we tourists do, because they're used to it. Gloves definitely help, but you'll probably still get blisters. After that: duct tape.
The other thing that'll get ya is alot of gripping and re-gripping. So if you wave sail ALOT or you do freestyle, you're going to get blisters no matter what.

There used to be gloves with half fingers specifically for windsurfing.
When the diameter of booms got smaller it seemed to me the blister
problem got less.
