Phillip's place is called Windsurf Inc and is located at 224 West Carolyn St on South Padre Island. It's in a residential area and can easily be missed. Just drive ( toward the Laguna ) to nearly the end of Carolyn and make a right into the driveway. It's behind a condo. Philip lives across the street. Great shop with a launch in the back yard.
We always fly into Harlingen. It's about a 30 min drive to SPI.
Housing is anything from Motel 6 to high end accommodations. I recommend avoiding any time near Spring break. _________________ mo |

Hi all, regarding the 7000 boards and sails at Worldwinds, fact is they have, not counting lesson specific gear, 53 20014 JP and Fanatic boards from 75L to 165L and 50 2014 Ezzy and North sails from 3.4 to 8.5.
Sorry I don't know travel or accommodation costs as I live near there, on The Island. |

we sailed at SPI at Windsurf inc last year when Worldwinds at Bird Island near Corpus was fully booked with a clinic. the folks at windsurf inc are great and they helped us a rent a very nice bay front condo at a reasonable cost where we could walk to their location. Unfortunately, the windsurf gear is really limited, old and tired. you might check to see if they have anything new. sailing at Windsurf inc is one foot chop on weed fins so you will spend a lot of time pointing on big sails. our adult kids enjoyed staying in SPI as it was not spring break and so did we. It seems that SPI is much more geared to kiters and has great gear and instruction for that....
Worldwinds at Bird Island has a good gear selection, great staff and much better flat water sailing and somewhat better wind, based on our limited experience. We think it is the best venue in the USA for folks to learn waterstarts, harness and footstraps. when you fall off you are not in water over your head and its warm! You fly into corpus and can stay there but we enjoy driving to and staying in Port Aransas, a funky fishing port and vacation town, which is about a half an hour drive from Worldwinds. Formal wear is switching to a T shirt with sleeves and we enjoy the place. just be sure to call in advance to make sure it is not a clinic weekend and they will have plenty of gear for you. On no wind days you can go fishing as there are tons of alternatives for that.
We have not sailed in the gulf, only on the Laguna Madre side but you can ask the world winds folks about that. Just call them and as recovering gorge folks in their own right, they are really friendly and helpful. |

Jibber has better gear rigged on the beach at the flats SPI. Good guy and the best wind on the bay. |
