Kelp in California makes these kind of devices marginal at best. I saw a guy loose his entire fin with a standard brass nut. He hit a patch of kelp and the whole thing blew off. |

Good reason to support going with the Tuttle finbox design. Two screws makes things super stout, but one must still depend on well designed and installed finbox.
Lastly, if you're using a US box, always go with the heavy duty SS threaded plates. Brass attachments simply aren't up for the job, especially those used to mount universals. |
