Do I need to go out and buy a kayak? Will there be an extra $7.00 for the kayak and does it need inspection also? Also does anybody know the water Quality after 3 years of drought?

My feeling is the city of sd is playing a game. They know if they make it so difficult and nobody shows up they can cancel the program again. Not sure I want to play.

They have been bought off by the powerful windSUP lobby.

Pity you cannot SUP on any city lakes...

In fact, people are trying to open the city lakes to SUP as well - that's a separate issue.

Anyway, SDWA is working to sort out the mess and get the access road opened.

Just FYI to those unfamiliar with LH.
The sailing area is on the left of this image where you can see a parking area near the text "N Shore Lake Hodges Trail". This was where everyone used to park and launch from ( you can see the well-maintained lot). Note the pumping station in the middle. This access road is now gated and locked.

By keeping this access road locked the Lakes people now are forcing people to launch from the part of the lake on the far right of the image near "Hernandez Hideaway".
Big deal, you might think. But there is often almost no wind down there. It's a nasty beat upwind to the "zone" where it's actually windy.

They are just closing the road, mind you. People can walk up the trail past the pumping station, so it's not like they have any kind of argument about 100% no-access.

How difficult is the trail with a bike and some sort of trailer? is that doable? Sailing up there seems too difficult without a daggerboard. That only leaves a bike or kayak? I would sup up there on a big board but that's not allowed and I don't have a kayak. Still, if its windy, it would be worth all the hassle and a great way to cool off on a hot summer day!

I think the trail would not be passable with a trailer. You could go up the access road quite easily. Not sure what the "legality" of that is.

I wanted to give it a shot today at slogging upwind , but the "eddy" fired up and killed it.

Sounds kinda like a Tubamancha situation, see the vid at

Packing in the gear, or using a small two wheeled gear cart might be the answer.
