Wish I would have known that in 1995. I just moved to SF to attend college. The niners were on TV and heading to the Super Bowl. I went out alone. Big westerly. The wind shadow behind FP got me. Just that fast I was sucked under the bridge. 2 mins in the water with no wind and gone. Slogged into Baker and got my ass handed to me. Been rescued at Crissy several times. Lost several riggs in the process. That day I learned to respect what is affectionately known as current.

I DO know because I've been surfing since 1965, mostly OceanBeach SF, living 3 blocks from Taraval St., every top Ft.Point and Deadman's surfer a personal friend of mine, been working at Wises or hanging there since 1966, know all the good OBSF surfers up until '85, all know me as well. was on top of the surf scene in SF for 20+ years, am listed in SurfingCalifornia (at least in the first few printings) AND Windfinder, have surfed Ft.Point at least 50 days, same for Deadmans, but was mainly a Sloat surfer all those years.
I've also lead the swims from Baker's Beach to YellowBluff, usually on a longboard of course, and as a kid, ran the beaches while my Dad was fishing for at least 10 years before I started surfing.

S Streetsailing, we might know each other if you were surfing in the '60's, '70's, thru mid '80's.
I was associated with WiseSurfboards until the mid '80's, the crew out at Sloat from the mid '60's, kinda forced Wise to sell windsurf gear from '83 thru '86, then went on to SausalitoSailboards for 5 years, Windsports for 4 years, then BerkeleyBoardsports for 4 years, and the Kinetic store in Oakland for 3 years.
