Ok the board is now about 2 week's old been working on lite wind freestyle the board work's great for it ( i need a lot of.work") had it in wave's with at wiggen's pass , a lot of fun and made wave day's ez. Broke down and got a dam paddle it work's with that to, but I still done like paddling, but better than
sitting on the beach with no wind! But today the wind finely came up 10 to 20 So i when out on flat water the board plane great Real happy with the board.
Down side the board real big hard to carry to water with sail,
Had to put pad's on nose paint come's off and dings ez.
Kicked off rubber on dagger board third time out.
Need's better dagger board gasket water shoot's out all around it! Looking for fix.

the dagger thing sucks for me. i never use it. i had mine sewn shut. james douglas and i have discussed this issue extensively. get an extra gasket, it ziplocks to the board. tape/sew the damaged one shut. keep the new one for any dagger app's you may wish to use.

if you do not have access to an industrial sewing machine, get sail repair tape, and gorilla glue down the leading edge. works pretty well too.

i want my curve/kona 11'5 back, damn it! yet, in lots of of the lightest wind app's the windSUP 11'8 is superior. enjoy having either.

when paddling the 11'8, use a really small fin, like 25-29 cm....

Is this gasket the same as the Kona One? Mine works pretty well.

Hi again did the gorilla tape and glue trick, look like it worked real good was out for 2hr today and it did't move. Should work tell I can make a new gasket .
Will check James out nex time i sail with him. Thank's again

I really hope your 11'8" doesn't break in half like mine did Crying or Very sad

Exocet came thru in the end so all is good and I'll assume they got the problem fixed.
It's a really fun board, you will find the sail needs to be all the way back in the mast track and footstraps all the way forward unless they changed those locations which they should do.
I don't use the daggerboard either.

At the very least the 11'8 and 10'0 should be offered in a "dagger-less" configuration, perhaps on the bamboo versions.

Or, if you really never need it, you could glass it permanently? Must be an easy job. In my case, I use it once in a while when it's faster, and the rest of the family use it all the time.

I still like having the daggerboard in my 11-8 WindSUP when ocean/wave sailing in side-on conditions. Once out beyond the break I find it very hand for quickly sailing on a close haul way up the beach a couple miles. Then it is just a blast to kick it back up and do a fast downwinder surfing the waves in and surfing the swells on deep broad reach runs on the outside as you head back. Then just kick the board back down again to head back up wind and repeat the whole process. Lots of Fun.

Plus having the dagger board available allows you to sail way downwind of launch riding waves and swells and then use it to get back up to where you started quickly. No walks of shame!

Additionally, there have been times when the wind is very light and side-offshore with a current running into the inlet. However there are nice waves jacking up for DTL wave riding right into the mouth of the inlet. Once off the wave and into the inlet the slog back up wind is slow though because of the incoming tidal current. Having the daggerboard available really helps you point upwind higher and gets you back up wind enough to do it again, and again.

For normal side off and sideshore light wind wavesailing I agree that the daggerboard is not really needed though.

I agree with what Sailboarder and WindNC said about the utility of the daggerboard on the 11'8". It's very helpful for family use, and it's handy for getting back "uphill" between wave rides when you're dealing with light wind, currents, etc.

My first choice for the 11'8" would be to have a GOOD daggerboard system like on the Kona ONE. Second choice would be no daggerboard. Last choice would be the crummy Allgaier daggerboard system it comes with now.

Yesterday my jury-rigged replacement daggerboard gasket failed because the vinyl gasket material was too stretchy. Had to go with no gasket, and the board was extremely slow with an epic geyser of water coming through the slot. Tomorrow I'm just putting a solid PVC plate over the slot, but I'm not happy about that solution because it's going to make it harder for my girlfriend to get around on the board.
