All I hear about at Memaloose is skunks and trains. Does Rowena now allow camping? |

I don't know of any camping at Mosier/Rowena but maybe I missed it.
Given a choice between Memaloose and Viento, I would choose Viento hands down.
1. Both have trains so that equals out.
2. Viento is 8 miles from HR Memaloose much farther.
3. Viento is WEST of HR which puts it as a cooler area. Don't believe me look around. Viento trees and green. Memaloose trees and brown. Less rain and warmer.
4. Viento you can SAIL at the same campground (if it's blowing of course)
5. Viento you can get on the I-84 east or westbound. Memaloose westbound only if I remember correctly AND to get there you have to be east of Memaloose (only westbound lane has access).
If you are okay with train noise (earplugs!) then Viento wins hands down (camped there for 14 summers), if you can't handle the noise, then Tucker would be next. BUT Tucker has air cannons that they fire off in the morning some times to protect the crops from birds
But if you pick a week to visit when a heatwave hits, then it is going to suck. Hood River seems much warmer for the same temperature than other areas I have lived. 100 degrees is pretty dam hot..... In that case you really want a place with power and something with an A/C... At least at Viento you can go down to the water and sit in it to cool off |

Maybe the guy's a Sailing Superman? Many visitors are not. That's why I mentioned Mosier & Rowena for "him" Sorry. |

Hey All,
If you are worried about noise head North in the deep woods!
Viento State Park is an excellent place to camp when you take into consideration the incredible amenities the State Park offers for any one. Clean showers, hot water, awesome beach, playground, large campground with access to a major hiking trail, all in all, a great campground.
Tip: The South side I-84 offers a quiet experience, and there is a creek that shelters the train noise. Keep in mind as the night sets in there is less traffic on I-84.
Wyeth a few miles West of Viento has a pretty decent campground. I have not spent much time there but it is a pretty decent place. If the camp sites are full there is an open area for ten bucks you can park a car and possibly pitch a tent. |

Hey no worries westender, I thought you knew of a campground that I never heard of. People I meet are always asking me about camping and such so if there is one, I would want to know about it |
