I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that some U.S. mainland folks north of Corpus are still WSing. I won't even bother looking at another wind forecast until April, when the water temps get tolerable again. In the meantime ...

Merry Christmas everyone! Still windsurfing here in Connecticut! Near 65 today with a southwest wind 15-20 for a few hours. Water is still in the low 50's! No boots hat or mitts. Sunday may be a repeat. NP love the picture!

| Isobars, my buddy and I sailed last Saturday, air at 0'C and water at 7'C, but the cleanest glassy and longest logo to mast high this year. I blew out a harness line dropping off back side, which made for the strong arm runs from hell in winds gusting to 40kts. A session to be etched in my mind forever. 😵 |

The 7C part is my cutoff point for bare hands and feet, but only if the air is well over 10C. Anything colder and the screaming, crying, and cursing is nonstop for 5-10 minutes. I, too, will never forget the session that taught me THAT lesson. 
I thought about adding a picture of frostbitten hands, but no WAY! They were right out of a horror movie. That's how my hands FEEL, but I don't want to diminish those who have experienced serious frostbite by joking about it.
BTW ... if anyone is tempted to ask me whether I've tried [insert anything short of the Ianovated wetsuit]; the answer is, "Yes". I just go cold turkey until the water temp returns to the upper 40s F in April.
Right now I'm more focused on what I plan to do to that buffet tomorrow. |

I was lucky enough to get in one more short session on the day before Christmas here in Connecticut, as it was so warm, about 60 with up and down winds of 10-20 mph. I got a few good rides on my 145L Rocket and 7.5 Ezzy Cheetah. As I was sailing along I discovered a kiteboard several hundred yards off shore, so I stopped to try to retrieve it, but could'nt because I had no line to secure the thing. I sailed back to the beach where there were a few kiters waiting for the wind to pick up and told them of my discovery. After getting some line from one of the guys there I sailed back out to retrieve the thing, but could not find it. After about a half an hour of searching I returned to the beach with the bad news. One kiter knew someone with a boat, and I went back home to get my paddleboard. The search continued for another hour to no avail. I though what a shame! That's enough to ruin anyone's Christmas! I sort of said a quick prayer to myself that the board be found. After watching movies with friends till midnight I decided to check my phone for any messages, which I had not done for at least 6 hours. Much to my surprise there was a message from Rob sent to me less than two minutes ago at 12:06 am. Dec 25th.
The board had been found! |
