You'd sing a different tune if you'd ever checked out the resident evil in my
booties.

My Honda van has held 2 boards, 6 sails, 4 booms, etc now full-time for 12 years. Trick may be that I live close to launch and routinely air-dry wetsuit, sail (used that session), harness, lifejacket outside the van at least overnight after each session. No complaints from spouse/riders and for 4 of those years I drove casual carpooling (removed fourth seat, but seating for required three). I have a blanket under gear and basically no water damage to van other than some minor rust on back rear gate latch after all that time/usage. I also leave windows cracked open when it''s not raining for ventilation. Sail typically 3-4 sessions/week all season. I don't think this is as big a problem as portrayed.

it took me about 60+ hours to do my van, complete with folding maple rack system, and cabinets front & rear.

Don't rub it in. Mine took me two years virtually full time. Sad

They are also washable. I don't wear 'em, but I do throw my wetsuits into the washing machine all summer long.

Yeh, the problem for me is that they almost never dry out outside before
I have to go and windsurf again..... that and shear laziness. They do
get a thorough wash at the end of the season.....if they have any use left.

short explanation of photo. my 2003 Chrysler Town & Country, totaled in North Carolina en route to Hatteras 2012, interstate , other vehicle lost control, bounced off guard rail, and in traffic had no choice, full head on, with side damage as well when the car swung . The rack was well destroyed, broken and unglued, that it was easier to make a new one.

The packing around and on the rack was such that nothing was damaged inside, except the rack itself, most of the boards never moved.

driver had airbag & seat belt , typical neck strain, but ok.

2nd rack is shown previously, almost the same, slightly tweaked

I am concerned about those loosely strapped boards and gear pointed at the back of the drivers head.
