Can anyone confirm that places like Canadian Hole and Kite point really are closed?

We recommend sailing at Frisco Woods Campground! They have a pool, showers, convenience store... But I don't have to tell you that! Laughing

Ooops, just noticed, you're a different "evans" than I originally thought... Maybe I do need to tell you about Frisco Woods Campground Very Happy It's a great place to sail, especially in our standard Fall northerlies, with excellent amenities and waist to chest deep water for miles. It has a much cleaner fetch than the Hole in north to northeast wind, and no annoying deep spots.

In any case, it's an excellent alternative to the Canadian Hole.

By the way, there have been people surfing and sunning on the Avon beaches all day... Haven't heard of anyone having any troubles... And everyone is still enjoying their vacations, regardless of the temporary rules Very Happy

You mean the beaches and parks still function without rangers? How does that work. I thought they had to roll out the sand and fill the ocean bright and early every morning. Wink

Andy,

I don't know if John sent you a link to the video he made of us all sailing at Izzy beach last Saturday. If not, send me a PM and I'll forward the link.

To preface the video; This is the first time my partner and I sailed side off with waves. Best experience windsurfing ever, and all thanks to Andy's advice on where to sail (we were aimed to go to Ocracoke at first).
While the video did not capture it, my friend and I managed to catch some nice shoulder to over head high sets too. I managed my first shot off the lip, what a rush that was!

Enjoy and hopefully others can learn from our mistakes in comparing to Andy's expertise:

Evan,
You have that right! All my years of sailing and never really knew what it meants to sail side-off. My first run catching some waves I was hooting and hollering the whole time. It was like being in our own dream windsurfing video sequence. The unfortunate part was we did not realize the errors of our approach until Andy showed us how it's done. We were sailing along too fast and dropping in to far down wind, compared to Andy's approach of stalling and waiting for it. Too bad we figured it out at the end of our adventure. We still managed to catch some nice rides all the same. I hit one section for 10 hits but we would end up pretty far down the shore after.

I hope this coming weekend will pan out as I got the green light to go again. It's worth the 16 hour drive for those dreamy conditions.
