Hi Gang,

On days like today you often see something like this in the forecast:

"The North Pacific High has pushed a RIDGE into Northern California and the wind at the Bay's surface and just aloft is weak NE in the AM. Then the normal winds build later and a bit weaker in the afternoon"

And you have to wonder what the hell is a "ridge". Of course you know that a ridge is an extension from the side of a mountain but what does that have to do with wind!. Turns out your mountain metaphor is pretty accurate. Except in this case we are dealing with a mountain of high pressure air known as the North Pacific High. So explore this ridge in this blog:
