I punctured the luff sleeve my new Ezzy 8.5 Cheetah by forcing the mast through using the downhaul line, no crank, just pulling on the line rigged one pulley on extension and sail.
The only sail I know of that can handle rigging like that is Hot Sails Maui with their Ox Web luff sleeve.
I was trying to avoid scrunching up the sail and creasing the film but I learned, albeit the hard way, that doing it that way it really isn't so bad.
The damage is more cosmetic and will be easily repaired by a sail loft but obviously totally avoidable.

Put some "Goop" on it, it won't grow. Available at Home Depot.
