Straps opening for wave riding... a few doubts remain

I'm still old gear school, when it come to waves.
On wider, modern boards, there's more need for big narrow strap setups. the wider board forces you to stand directly on center to weight the toeside rail.
Older, 53cm wave boards, you can have almost, almost, standard sized straps and still bottom turn toeside in the straps by bending knees a lot and pulling down hard on the booms.
The modern wider boards are much better in smaller sized surf, while narrower boards still rule in bigger surf riding.
