Well, it's coming up on 7 years since I repaired the soft spot on the Mistral Flow, and I am here to report the final results . . .
I'm guessing I've had 15 or so sessions on the board since the repair. The soft spot started to redevelop about two seasons ago. It's still much smaller than pre-repair, but noticeable and growing. Since then I have acquired some new boards in the 100L+ range that I am riding more often, but I still like the Flow just fine. I will continue to use it once in a while until it fails.
I think most of the original comments on the repair were along the lines that it will probably last 10+ sessions and the soft spot will eventually return, which is exactly what happened. So good on y'all.

p.s. no big jumps with hard landings in all those 7 years. . . not that I didn't try. |

1. Dress for the swim.
2. Pray for a swap meet.
3. I once hand-fitted and laid a thin sheet of stainless steel over a soft spot like that beneath one back heel, then put a pad over it. Very easy, cheap, and felt fine for years. It apparently had just enough flex to keep from concentrating all the forces to its edges.
4. I press and bang on the deck between the straps, and open-hand-slap the whole bottom (listening and looking for delam) of every used board I buy. |

Thanks for the update.
I use the West Systems product, but never like that. My repair would have been a lot more extensive. But then..
The effort and amount spend and time in this case seems to have been worth it. _________________ K4 fins

I wouldn't worry too much about breaking the board jumping, because you are always in the straps while jumping. Soft spots are generally caused by foot placement in the area in front of the back strap during jibes. If the bottom of the board is still sound you're pretty good to go.
One way to discern the integrity of the bottom is the coin test. Take a quarter edgewise between your thumb and index finger and tap it repeatedly in the footstrap areas and in between. For a contrast, compare the sound to the bottom of the board in the nose area. If the you find a deadened sound in the footstrap areas, that is a sign that the bottom is fatigued and could be suspect over time. |

I definitely have a better idea of problems to look for in future used board purchases - that knowledge alone is worth the repair effort to me.
Thanks for all the input.
