From my limited experience most storms/hurricanes not really sailable. They often come with heavy rain and funky unreliable wind.

Hurricanes don't usually provide the best sailing - if they are sailable, it's more to prove a point, and to create a day of windsurfing memories you probably will never forget. But there is a substantial danger with debris in the water during and after hurricanes.
But the area that hurricanes hit directly is usually limited, while the system provides lots of great wind for days and often hundreds of miles (or sometimes even most of the east coast). On Cape Cod, there is often very good sailing to be had before and after storms. We have had some fun sailing winter storm Nemo in February. We had less luck with other storms when we wanted to sail Duxbury Bay, which would be a safe place for storm sailing, except that the Harbor Master likes to close the bay when there is a storm warning. But we have discovered a few more safe places on Cape Cod since then, so we are really looking forward to the storms!
We'll be mostly sailing flat water, but what outcast is waiting for are the swells that the huge storm systems deliver. He'll be SUPing if the wind is no good, but I'm sure he'll be wave sailing a lot, and enjoy that the crowds are disappearing from the beaches.

I think he's referring to the swell Created by a hurricane 1000 miles away And a local southwest side off wind. I'm feeling if I have to explain this to you you won't get it anyway.

Please be extremely careful about sailing too soon AFTER a hurricane, lots of debris in the water can be very dangerous and, literally, deadly, as we found out here on LI a couple of years ago.
However, the swell before storms can be amazing.

My thoughts are the same
Not about the wind
all about the swell

I remember back about 3 years ago very long period 2' conditions. Even with the so-called short height, the amount of water moving was massive; and it still jacked up to near head high.
Kids - you can't push 'em OC. My son went home with a smile last night. Good enough
