Hey Michael,

Glad to hear you finally got it dialed in. I never thought about sheeting out, but I concentrate in slicing the sail through the apparent/real wind which is probably the same thing as sheeting out. Then I concentrate in getting my nose over the boards nose. I know I don't really get that far forward, but it is what I concentrate with. Where I have problems from time to time is with the exit. Sometimes I power up too fast, sometimes I open the sail before I get the board around. Both have bad results Smile

I think we're achieving the same thing with the sail work...when I've done the move a few dozen more times perhaps I'll be more subtle moving the rig through the wind noseward (along with my nose, which I too am trying to get it way forward, though it never actually arrives!) I think Andy B's reason for saying "sheet out" is twofold: Slashing upwind with power in the rig keeps the sailor more towards the back of the board (while we need to get over the nose for the backwinding) and the depowered sail is light in the hands, and so luffs to windward more easily. In any event I like your description.

Re the exit, it reminds me of helitacking in planing conditions, needing to judge both when to open the sail (usually I need to go later in the UW360) and where/how far out to move my torso so I don't get LAUNCHED!
