I have three NoLimitz masts; 370, 400, 430, pictured here from left to right.
When I stand the bottoms side by side, you can see that the markings for the boom clamp are at different heights. Is this intentional or is it just sort of random when they are applied? Of course mast extensions need to be at different lengths for different sails which means you can't always just clamp your boom at "2" for example, but is there more to this than meets the eye?

What say you?

use the markings on the sails, that way you get the same distance from bottom of sail every time. if your sails don't have boom markings, then just use a permanent marker.

Never paid attention to them. I have a method to measure from the bottom of the extension to where the middle of the boom attaches. 6 open hands for me. But the method is simple. Find your boom height then measure it with some body part that you can use while it is lying on the ground. Preferably a body part that doesn't change size. Rolling Eyes

Disregard those. Use the markings on the sail.

I'm missing something or not getting the question. WHY would you use a marking on a sail to set your boom height? People like their booms at different heights and a 5'4" person and a 6'2" person probably have different boom heights...

I don't think my sails have any cut-out markings, but I like the idea of finding the sweet spot and marking it with a pen.

EDIT: Dennis gets credit for suggesting using a pen. Very Happy

Since we set the sail the same distance from the mast base cleat almost every time, and often use different length masts besides different company and model masts on the same sail, the only real height indicator is the boom's location on the sail's luff opening.
We know we rig the sail pretty low.
Who here really relies on mast height indicators or boom markings?

I never mark nothing...
I like the ADVENTURE of new experiences, so one day, the boom is over my forehead, the next day, it's below my armpits.

The luff opening markings are usually one sided . You may never notice them if you rig your sail always on the opposite side . All my sails have them.
