Looking for a good place to take family in Mexico that is near some good/decent windsurfing spots. Family does not windsurf. It's just me. So hoping to find a fun place for family to enjoy the day (e.g., fun local town, nice accommodations, restaurants, etc.), while I take a couple afternoons sailing. While I have never sailed in Mexico, it seems that most of the places in La Ventana would not be too fun for non-windsurfers and non-campers. So I guess what I'm hoping for is a mash up of La Ventana sailing and a location like Zihuatanejo. But maybe I'm just dreaming.

My skill level is immediate/advanced having done nearly all my sailing in SF Bay and The Gorge. I don't wave sail... but I can sail most anything the Bay and Gorge has to offer.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

All those reasons are why I return to Los Barriles/VelaBaja yearly in January - basically since 1996. My wife "hates the wind", but loves being able to walk everywhere from Hotel Playa del Sol. More info as desired. Cheers, David

Better advice... Go on windsurf trip with windsurfers....Go on family vacation with family. mixing the two is a difficult feat...

The other place that gets wind is the Riviera Maya. I was there in December 2022, and it was plenty windy with a bunch of kites out. Went looking for a place in Tulum that had windsurfing according to the website. I was unable to locate it, so never got out. You'd probably have to take your kit if you go that route, but plenty to do for Non windsurfing family.
Good luck.

Not Mexico, but Maui if you can afford it.

La Ventana hands down.

Check out: www.prowindsurflaventana.com

They have ATVs, Sail Boats, Paddle boards, snorkel gear and tons of other toys to keep the non-windsurfers entertained.

I'd agree with Boggsman. Windsurfing and family vacations don't mix that well. LaVentana is awesome. Wyatt's place is awesome. I had the time of my life last year over xmas there. My family was less enthusiastic. Good windsurfing conditions make for pretty lousy beach conditions for everybody else.

Good foiling conditions however, can be a lot more enjoyable for the rest of the family. Wyatt also mentioned to us that Thanksgiving time was warmer w/ lighter winds making beach conditions more family friendly. Winds may be light for windsurfing, but likely perfect for wind or wing foiling. There was also really good snorkeling and paddle boarding when winds were light.
