Starts light but than beefs up to 5.0 conditions. I decide to try my RRD FSW 90 with the Point-7 ACX (is there an Italian theme?) and I am not disappointed. I am using the stock 28 fin and two 8 cm K4 Rocket sides and the board goes wonderfully on the water. I am overpowered and there is the usual chop and small swell but the board goes through it without a blink. Never felt so much in control in these conditions. Downwind drops into the waves, not a hint of spin out, long (for me) power jumps. It goes upwind very well and seems relatively fast. Does not feel slalom fast (but what a comfortable ride by comparison), but still I am gaining fast on people on 5.0 and B&J.
Lovely, really! The board can take easily a 6.5 and overlaps nicely into the range of a 70 wide slalom ... or a foil if I ever decide to get one. Could it be that after 32 years of sailing the Bay area I might have the perfect medium to high wind quiver (81 Starboard + 90 RRD)?

Well that is sad. Condolences to the family and friends and a heartfelt understanding to the one who tried to save him. That is a tough thing to experience.
In an attempt to get this thread back to it more regular use I offer the following:
Sailed Its Beach today with launch and landing being Mitchell's Cove. Was trying to go out at Natural Bridges, but the parking lot was full.
Mitchell's Cove is definitely wind shadowed so used my Angulo Sail SUP 10'-2" and my new Ezzy Elite 6.1. Sailed inside the kelp to Its. Fell a couple of times when a kelp head tripped me up. Its is NOT wind shadowed so had full on wind there in the high teens. And for a welcome change, the wind was very steady! Now that is a most wonderful blessing. Seemed to make sailing almost effortless.
Played on the swell there and had swell that was barely see-able to three that were head high. This was in the hour+ that I sailed there. When the wind started to drop, I headed to the outside where there was still decent west wind and tacked back to Mitchell's.
Fun day!

windward1,
I've been impressed with the calorie burn count during your sessions. you must be pretty lean and fit by now. When I foil instead of windsurf I think I'm burning off only about 20 calories

Hi Bert,
Calorie burn figures by Garmin are based on running. I am not. Just hooking in and hanging on so to speak. Ignore the calorie count on these reports.
However, I have lost over 10 pounds since the beginning of the season.

Go to Crissy enough and you ought to have a bad day.
ROUND 1. Around 3 pm with 81/5.0. I take off fast and if feels great until I reach the "outside" where it drops significantly. Turn around and it has really dropped ... so dropped that I am off the plane and limp back slowly and then more slowly and more so until you go in, sort of water start, ride a few swells in displacement (fun!), go in, water start and after a good loooong time finally make it midway on the barrier west of the Sailing Club. Not a walk of shame but damn close to it.
ROUND 2. Around 4.30 pm. I decide to rig 5.8 and take the RRD 90 even if all my senses tell me the wind is coming back. And it does. By the time I am getting off the beach there are white caps everywhere and by the time I reach the real wind line am so nicely overpowered that I decide to call it a day. Turn, and come back roaring to the beach ... well sort of roaring because there is still a wind hole. Lesson: Wait before re-rigging, or grab the larger board first!
Significant sights: the International competition kite foilers are flying around. Quite impressive. And similarly, if not more, impressive Jean gets out in the conditions I considered too hard to bother with a big board, massive foil, and large cambered sail. The equipment looks huge but he is foiling in seemingly complete control with impressive speed and upwind angles.
Tomorrow off, the Van is going in for its service.

Another gusty day at San Luis.
rigged a 4.7 and it was enough most of the time,
and almost to much in the gusts.
I can't seem to find any steady wind this year but
I can find wind. 4 total sailors including me.
Its been going off pretty regular down there.

Eight folk out windsurfing at Natural Bridges yesterday. On 4.2 to 5.2 sails mostly. Conditions good, but the wind slacked off after 4 p.m.
That is a good turnout for NB.

What a fun day (Monday) at the Stick! When you are getting up there in age, a steady 4.5/90 is so much more enjoyable than those gusty 2.9/78 and 3.5/85 days that we have recently. Stronger wind is not necessarily better anymore.
