A bit cold 45F had to break and warm up the hands at least once. |

3rd Ave was also good on New Years Day. A few guys out on 6 somethings sailing the flood.
I was powered for a couple hours on 4.7 during slack and ebb. Wind tailed off as sun set on the first day of 2017.

So, I've been sick and missed New Year's Day. Today was the redeemer. 3.7 with 78 liters was plenty at the harbor from 12:30-2:30. It looked like it blew all day. Folks were leaving from the earlier session when I arrived and I saw Dr. Steve driving in as I was pulling out. Lite rain - not too bad. Check off January and hopefully 2017 offers plenty more windy days!

Kevin K. got the Massive Nads Award for going out at Ocean Beach today when it seemed like it was averaging upper 30's.

Got in the water around 8:30. 4.2 rigged pretty flat with an 85 ltr board. Overpowered in the gusts but mostly fine. Some huckable ramps on the inside and some blazing speed runs in the micro chop up against the jetty wall. I haven't sailed the harbor in a couple years, but I have to say it seemed a lot cleaner than before. No dead birds or seals, and the sign for polluted water was not up, encouraging! It was good to see some of the usual suspects out there.

could have resulted in a Darwin Award. that was scary. probably in the top two or three windiest days I've ever sailed. was getting smeared on a 3.8... 3.3 probably would have been doable. 2.9 probably preferable. Marty, thanks for looking after me while i was floundering outside trying to waterstart to get my ass back to shore.
