The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy Positively identified 80 new great whites and 40 returns this season from June to November. They Tagged 24 of the newly IDed sharks. The total for tagged sharks is now around 82. This has mostly been done between Coast Guard Beach in Eastham and the tip of Monomoy Island in Chatham. 21 miles of coastline. Shocked
Mary Lee was tagged up here in 2012. I guess it pissed her off as she has not been back since. Laughing
Great photos and info on the AWSC facebook page... https://www.facebook.com/atlanticwhiteshark

Are most of these "tagged" sharks done with the ocearch transmitters? The ocearch site just doesn't show that many sharks around the cape. What's the sighting activity been lately ? Many surfers seeing them ? It was getting pretty busy when I left at the end of the summer.

Jay the AWSC is not using the SPOT tags like Ocearch. They are tagging with acoustic tags and SAT pop-off tags. So info is picked up by receiver buoys on Cape and along the East Coast. The actual have to go out and pull an SD card out of the buoy and down load the data. Sharks must swim within 200 yards of the buoy to be picked up.
Supposedly Ocearch is coming back next year. Will be interesting.
.....Jerry

that vesel Ocearch uses to catch and tag the skarks is impressive

when you guys sail Monomoy have there been any sightings...run-ins...i am sure there are a few stories out there

The unvarnished truth ---

Regardless of what type, I never saw the one coming that jumped out next to me at Skaket. (end of October 2014)

People always ask, how big was it. I did not give a sh!t (and that was good for my wetsuit too) , I was too busy focusing on sailing away as fast as possible.

Big enough to seriously fvck me up!!

I was on such an adrenaline high from a good sailing session with friends, I discounted it
