I recommend an immediate namechange. What do you call a great workout for your abs, back, shoulders and arms? A core workout. From now on we call slogging a "core workout!"
Also the "prewindsurfing warm up" should be recognized for its stretching and weightlifting. We drag shit over then have to sit on our butts and bend up in a little ball and pull hard on a rope with a screwdiver or spreader bar etc. Then we get off the ground (which I find harder every year now) and go back to the vehicle to get the stuff we forget we needed and sometimes have to start all over again! Then struggle to get on a wetsuit while doing an imitation of a snake or a worm. Then we drag heavy stuff with both hands down to the beach while the wind provides thrills and stresses like some sort of freak's version of a Pilates machine. Then commence the core workout; Sheesh, I'm exhausted just thinking about it!
My brother pointed out years ago on Maui that the Japanese folks do stretching, meditation and assorted other stuff that I don't understand before they go out, while the typical american walks up, throws his shit down, has a cigarette and a Snickers bar and goes for it!
Brian Caserio pointed out that he did more "core workouts" (he used the old outdated term) than the little people then went back to the beach depressed and had to have a Twinkie. |
