windsurfing, Oahu, Kauai, Maui shallow water spots

Threads like these never get old! Here's my $0.02.

Renting decent equipment on Oahu is tough. IMHO It makes best sense to buy new stuff in HI and keep it there since most of your equipment short of booms comes from Maui (Hot Sais, MFC, and all sorts of boards: Tabou, Goya, etc.). It's cost prohibitive to take stuff on the plane.

For Kailua I have an 8.0 and 160L board that my wife can also play with. I didn't know about Kahala/Waialae Beach Park until someone on this forum had mentioned it, so I'll check it out this summer with a 115L and a 5.0 sail.

virgin airlines will take windsurfing(and kiting) equipment at no additional charge with apparently no weight or size limit.

they partnered with hawaiian airlines last year but i'm not sure if that policy applies on Hawaiian flights.

they'd probably ding you on the inter island flights, though.
