SUP anyplace but bad vibes at pleasure point.
If you are not a wave hog you won't get into trouble that being
said I would stay away from the short board breaks.
That means the Lane , 1st peak pleasure and the Hook.
Did you see the article about the the two lawyers at war
at pleasure point, one a SUPer and a DA the other a 62 year old surfer who is also a lawyer and vandalized the SUPer's car.

Covewater is the biggest SUP shop in Santa Cruz
go Suping in the morning when there is no wind the tide should be
low in the morning in the coming week.
There are some rentals near Cowells but its beginner equipment.

Hi Peter Kimball: Please send me an email at benjaminpink@gmail.com about volunteering, thanks!

Re: SUP, as was mentioned, try going to Covewater shop, they can rent you gear and probably give advice where to go.

I think it is the most practical place to mount a wave contest in the Bay Area. Good access, parking for contestants and good visibility for the judges.

PS If there are any crusty 'experienced' wave sailors out there >=55, the "Grand Masters" division needs some more entries.

Looks like it will be blowing!

Some of the pros from other areas (west of Cali) are already in the area getting used to the local conditions, which have been very windy for a week. I'm south of Waddell 4ish hours, but some are here, making us long time locals stop and stare.
Youth, it's spoiled on young people, but we can still photo-bomb if we want to.
KP's been taking pics.

I have heard they have demos of wave gear at the AWT. Can we get more details about the when and where? Boards are so expensive now the try before you buy is essential.

Anyone who is a competent wave sailor can enter the AWT and not be embarrassed. The pros sail in their own division/heats. The amateurs make up the bulk of the sailors.
You do need to bring your game face as everyone takes it somewhat seriously, so don't expect to be waved onto the set of the day by someone in your heat! The best accessory is a sailing watch for keeping track of the countdown to and timing of your heat. Many a heat has been won by squeaking in the last wave or first wave of the heat.

Pat:
Goya is one of the big sponsors of the Contest. Last year they had lots of Goya gear all rigged up and on the beach to demo. I assume that Wed will be the main demo day.
