While we all wait for the Republicans to either destroy the US economy or reopen Crissy, I had the first WIND-SUP day of the season at the Stick.
An hour paddling followed by a wonderful displacement sailing session in 2 to 4 knots easterly winds ... warm for a change!!!!!!
It has been said many times before but really: Wind-SUP is a great change for the sport. For us, in the Bay Area, it brought about a never ending season |

+1 for SUP sailing!
There's been much discussion about the "longboard craze" on these forums, and I think I know what brought it about: Kiting. Windsurfers like myself who get tired of sitting on the beach watching kiters in 13 kts, but are unwilling to take up kiting (dangerous), went out & got themselves a longboard for something to do in light winds. Guess what? It's f***ing FUN!!! _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie

Hey Davide, which sail did you use? I'm guessing Firelight 6.0. |

Yes, the Firelight 6.0, the 5.0 works as well but the 6.0 is so light that has no disadvantage, especially on such a big platform. The beast actually gets on a plane with some wind
Spennie: I agree, one of the good contributions of Wind-SUP is to take us out of the 5.0-or-no-sailing mentality. In 10-15 Knots a medium-big slalom is king, a long board or Formula gets going even lower, but the advantage of a Wind-SUP is that it is easy and requires no special equipment: you can use the same rig you have for B&J and have fun. A no brainer really: the SUP gets you on the water with great exercise, plug in your rig and you are sailing! And a lower wind limit than Kites: yesterday no kite could have been out sailing, but I was happily going around in the tiny breeze

If Candlestick isnt your cup of tea, you could also pull the rig off the SUP, and head out to Dillon, or Bolinas, or any beautiful Cali beach and enjoy the glassy waves with a paddle |

tstizzle,
I can recommend the Angulo SUPs. I have the 10'10" and thoroughly enjoy both SUPping and sailing on it. They also have a larger one with a mast track as well.

Try Amundson, Starboard, Exocet, Naish, all have sailable SUPs, probably a few more brands as well. I SUP on my Kona One quite a bit, only 27" wide so it's slightly tippy, but it's an excellent windsurfing longboard. I put the centerboard down for extra stability, works great. Big long boards for touring, shorter boards for waveriding, pay attention to displacement or you'll suffer a lot! _________________ Spennie the Wind Junkie
