Good thing he chose to borrow a NoLimitz Sumo mast, the mast didn't break in this maneuver!!

Only the guys who fling themselves into the air into a headplant call it a maneuver. To everybody else it's a crash. Wink

I used to do a move like that. I called it a forward. I broke a Neal Pryde and a fiberspar mast while failing to perfect it.

NoLimitz might have to sponsor that kid. Looks like you might have saved him from a broken neck in that shallow water. Great way to sell your masts though. I could see that in one of your ads!

A most excellent ad photo! (And I'm a Fiberspar/MS guy!)

Do you know what he was throwing when he stuck the mast?

Looks like a back loop.
Mast isn't stuck yet.
I"ve seen several cases where the mast impaled into the reef/rock, and the board was dangling 6' off the water, the waves just smacking the board when sets rolled thru. And the masts didn't break! SDM's from the early '80's.

Around '94, when Ty and Whit were too small to talk to shop employees, they'd come around with Dad to scrounge windsurfing parts. Dad was a real scrounger, similar to JonahLepak's dad (who also scrounged around for parts in the mid '80's).
I gave all sorts of unsellable parts to them, a half dozen boards, double that in sails (all old used, of course), booms, masts, and football fins.
TomLloyd hated me for that.
Luckily, Jonah, Ty, and Whit became PRO sailors.
