Howdy all,

Check out our report of South Padre Island Windsurfing/Kiting adventures from last March:

http://2manventure.wordpress.com/2013/03/20/south-padre-island/

We just finished the blog post from last year, but we are planning on heading back tomorrow for round 2. It should be a blast!

Thanks for looking, and let me know if you have comments/questions.

Great road trip story, guys, but "Sitting on the beach, waiting for the unheard-of seasonally low winds to pick up" sums up many hundreds of man-days of March and April South Texas road trips for our New Mexico crews. Your "Wet, windless, hot, and humid" were the norm in the '80s.

Better luck this year.

Water temperatures are already in the 70's here in Corpus as well as South Padre.

Sweet! Thanks for the water temp report.

Hope the winds are good in the next week or so. We are excited to get out there!

Isobars, even if the winds are light we are stilling looking forward to relaxing on the beach!

Thanks for looking.

I have the same year Goya board. I don't see many of them around. How have you liked it?

I like the board. It has been great for low winds here in Colorado and Texas. It seems like it gets up on a plane nice and early.

The only problem I have had is a few of the foot strap screw holes have stripped out, so I have had to move the footstraps around to put them back on.

Kind of scary when you are blasting along and a footstrap busts loose.

I was at SPI for the month of April last year. We got very good wind even a few 4.2 days. I'm heading back again this year. I guess it like anywhere else we chase the wind." You should have been here tomorrow"

I'll be arriving in SPI on April 1st for a month. Being there 30 days greatly improves your odds of getting some wind (also Condo's are surprisingly cheap if rented for a month). It helps if you don't mind taking out your beginner gear (assuming you have some) and work on some low wind freestyle sail handling skills when the wind is light. If that fails, rent a kayak (or bring one like me), rent a SUP, or heck take a kiteboarding lesson. There is plenty to do there, you just have to be flexible...

Of all the continental spots I've been, I'd recommend SPID for kiting lessons, and easiest wave riding with wide open sideshore winds and 2' waves. Sometimes the waves get up to 4', but only occasionally.
Beginner longboard surfing is also an alternative.
Tennis? Too hot, but the Radison welcomes decent players 4.0 and up, and it's free if you're that level.
Best of all is the warm winds, friendly launch's, free camping (1 n 3 days, stay at a 50 buck hotel for a clean shower), and moderately priced food.
SPID equals multi sport fun!
