No Heli drop for me CB. To rich for my blood. Both my brothers did the day pass with six drops. Something like a grand each. Their videos were amazing, but conditions were poor.

CB, where do you windsurf around there? Are you allowed on Lake Nighthorse?

I have to ask....is heli- skiing worth it? I have a friend wanting me to go out west to do so, but I see it as a waste when anything compared to here is great.

Baja and the Gorge!

There is a power plant lake in New Mexico near Farmington. Usually sail there maybe 4 to 5 days per year anymore. I drove out to Lake Nighthorse a couple months ago and all the gates were locked. So, I do not know yet. I kite too, so I didn't want to ask if it was O.K. Blue Mesa, near Gunnison, can be good 6.0 conditions but the season coincides with the best biking season so I don't really hit it often...only if I happen by on the way to a project in Crested Butte and I see white caps.

The 4 corners is a great place to live...except for windsurfing. But, the way I look at it, I a spend a lot less time driving to Baja and the Gorge than most folks spend commuting in traffic.

I have never been able to justify the cost. My wife is an excellent skier; so if I go, she goes. Last time we looked at the Bugaboos we were looking at $15k to $18k for a week of vacation. My brother in law was doing a trip every other year for awhile and he would say it is worth it. So, pretty subjective. He lives to ski. I have a lot of "live to do" activities.

I would agree. However if you are going to try, Silverton is a great place to do it! You can try it once for just $160. It might be like herion though. I guess if you have the money? But who really needs super fine wine?

I can justify fun with simple GS turns on groomed trails, taking in the views.

My sister used to live in BC and work for the ad agency that handled Whistler / Blackcomb and I'd ski for free on a corporate pass. I thought skiing out of bounds in waste deep powder was cool enough. I can't see dropping extra coin for the heli skiing when it's already amazing.

Unless you need the 45 degree pitch, on the side of a cliff in Alaska, CAT skiing is the way to go. 1/3 the price, NO weather issues. Island Lake Lodge in Eastern BC is the best.

I have been to Whistler 4 times and had to come home early twice because of rain. That being said I still think it is the best skiing in North America.
Two peaks side by side with legit 5200' vertical drop, non of this bullshit half mile push to the parking lot.
And my all time bragging rights is Chamonix. Most amazing thing you could ever see on skis. 9000' vert and the scariest tram ride in the world. First tram goes up like Jackson Hole 4000' no problem. Second Tram goes strait up a 5000' vert cliff with no towers. 12 mile run to the bottom..Awesome!!!

I haven't skied much over the last 15 years but I used to ski 50+ days a year. Mostly at Mammoth. January and February can be epic there. Especially when it's a very cold winter. Otherwise Sierra Cement.

Been to all the spots in Co and Idaho, but still have a sweet spot for Mammoth.
