Anyone ever sail in the bay in Catano (the beach behind the Bacardi factory)? Passed by just to have a look one day - the water was a bit murky near the shore and the beach a bit dirty, but a few goods spots to launch from, with decent wind coming from the east and enough space to sail away from the boats.

Been to PR twice, but don't know where the old Bacardi factory is.
Is it the one between Hillside and Condado?
Seems the winds there often hit around 17-22 in the gusts, which mean almost any body of water is windsurfable. But gear is a problem, unless you bring your own, and so few windsurfers it's almost always a lonely experience unless you sail at LasMarias or WNW shore.
We've been looking at the SE beaches where the winds are side onshore, nobody around except for beachcombers, but pretty steady winds.
We stay in Fajardo, where E winds are offshore and gusty, while NE or N makes for a nice sailing in winds around 14-25.

Its the bay across from Old San Juan. If you've ever been up to the fort (El Moro), you can pretty much look right across the bay to the beach . Seems to get pretty steady winds. Thanks for the heads up on the locations, will def try them out!

Thanks for the info... I thought it might be there, as we drive down from Hillside and it looks like the old plant there, on the way to Condado or old SanJuan.
Yes, right at the E end of OldSanJuan, the reef is much closer to shore, and it's a surfer's beach when the winds don't blow too hard, but it looks like Aquadilla when the E winds blow 20, like side off, easy reef right waves and some closeouts, close to shore, but public parking very limited and only the lucky can park within walking distance of the beach.
If there ever was a crowd of windsurfers in SanJuan, that would be the ideal surfsailing beach, as the E winds are side with some off, the waves very clean, the reef well defined, and 1/5 th the distance out as LasMarias.
The other spot that would be surfsailing is IslaVerde, yes that beginner looking surfing beach in front of those hotels by the airport. If you can park close, which we've been lucky to find right at the entrance next to some big hotels, the beach is very flat, chop limited by the flat water and offshore winds, and waves seemingly very managable with a left reef off to the left side of the cove. That beach rent's soft surfboards and SUP's.
We have a relative who lives in Luhillo, his apartment at some private complex, at the downwind end of a cove. Nice side off winds on E, side on in NE winds, can get head high, steep sandy beach, just E of the big point at Luhillo.
My g/f is going back this summer, but I"m not going till next Christmas for another 3 week stay. We have our gear in Fajardo her a HyperSonic122 and me a Seatrend 90 with the nose chopped off. 5-6 meter sails.
