Maybe the most important thing to come from this event:
"A big thank you to all those who took part and organised this radical event in Brandon Bay.My wife and I attended as the event was dedicated to Mikey our beautiful son who passed away and we went to honour his memory. The conditions were great …a real Irish Storm and the 10 guys all braved the conditions like true professionals .Josh Angulo spoke at the results ceremony about his friend Mikey who had been caught up in a storm in life and was a true waterman whose memory will never be forgotten. We want to thank everybody we met at this special Red Bull Storm Chase Mission 1 Ireland who consoled us and spoke fondly of their fond memories of Mikey. Thanks guys.Mikeys videos of Ireland are on Vimeo under his name Mikey Clancy."
And if you don't know what videos....check this dude charging alone, cold and big:

pretty amazing project to be involved with.
At 38 yrs of age and a 3 week son, I stuck to my strengths of riding a few waves and left the crazy jumps for the kids, but felt good with a respectable 8th place amongst of fired up group of sailors. back to Nahant tomorrow |
You did great! Their coverage is too competition-oriented (as I'm sure their company forces them to be), so they are focusing more on describing the sessions of those who are advancing to the next round. I'm equally interested in reading about/watching all 10 of the sailors, and I hope they come out with some more video clips soon. To simply sail in conditions like that and come back in one piece means that you all won.
It seems like you had an extra challenge of leading off the competition...lots of unknowns at stake and you handled it like the pros you are. Anyway, great job and I've been living vicariously through you guys this week. |

Just watching the sailors walk their gear to the water was unbelievable .
Truly epic conditions.

reading this heartbreaking news on several sites ,statement on the link below from Michael , Mikey s father.
http://www.continentseven.com/2013/01/15/a-statement-from-michael-clancy/
the portrait of him catches some of his inner self. The tributes from his mates esp Katie McKenna are almost too hard to read _________________ K4 fins

thank you josh for whatever you said to honor mikey, we know you might understand better than any of us... hard to believe with the courage to go out "alone, cold and big" as oc says and the tenacity to come back from that devastating ankle injury that he could need to leave so early. |

Very sad that he had to go.
He lived life more than most people ever will.
The video of him that Outcast posted with the Awalnation song (Sail) has me mesmerized every time I watch it. Though the lyrics to the song really makes you think about what could have been going on in his mind.
It is sad. If he had just been able to make it though a day or two he may have realized things do always get better no matter how down you are.
Thanks Josh for standing up and speaking for the windsurfing world.
I never met Mikey (wish I had) but he was a family member in this great windsurfing family of ours.
Sail on Mikey. _________________ www.Clew-View.com
