I'm weighing options for windsurfing on Spring Break, considering Pamlico Sound at Cape Hatteras or Worldwinds in Corpus Christi. I am about intermediate, my girlfriend is a beginner. Last year we went to Worldwinds and loved it on Spring Break. No wetsuits and decent wind made it easy. I'd appreciate thoughts from folks who have sailed at Cape Hatteras. I am learning in the Gorge, slowly.

Hatteras has a good chance of wind almost year-round, but it's not dependably warm until May. I'd recommend doing Corpus again. Good luck!

I agree with James. I have had to use gloves and and a drysuit in Hatteras in April. Besides the warmer temperatures and steadier wind in Corpus, I think Worldwinds also has great instructors and some of the best rental gear in the US.

Thanks for your thoughts on Hatteras and Corpus. It sounds like both are good, but the water will be warmer in Texas, perhaps steadier winds too.

I like both spots. Hatteras can is cooler that time of year, but has much more sailable terrain. If the wind blows from the South, it can get quite warm, and when it shifts to the North, it can get chilly. It's fun to try new spots, and Hatteras is one of the best.

I love both options but have to give props to Worldwinds for the climate that time of year. Plus their learning setup is second to none. Or you could even try south padre for something new. I haven't been for a few years so I don't know their current instruction/rental situation, but it's nice there too.

Hey Crash pile! We get a good number of spring breakers here in Hatteras every year. Well, let me be more specific- we get a lot of "windsurfing spring breakers." Not too much of a big party scene here, which, I could be wrong but I think Texas is a bit more known for that stuff? What we do have is a ton of wind and water, and easy, inexpensive access.

Anyway- yes, I can almost guarantee that Texas will be warmer. We've sailed in trunks at the end of March before, but you're wayyyyy more likely to need a thick fullsuit, hood, boots, and mitts.

Let me know if you decide to come East!

I have no idea what March conditions are like in Cabo Verde, but I WILL say that Cabo Verde is one of the few places in the world that I'd ever really leave Hatteras to go visit!! Laughing
