From NPR:
Quote: | Guns In America, By The Numbers
January 5, 2016·12:09 PM ET
Scott Horsley
President Obama announced executive actions Tuesday, intended to curtail gun violence. But if history is any guide, the president's effort may have the unintended effect of boosting gun sales — 2015 was a banner year.
"After San Bernardino, our business went up probably 50 percent," John Lamplugh, who has run gun shows in Maryland and Pennsylvania for more than three decades, said, referring to the recent shooting in California. "It's either two things: They're scared and need to protect [themselves]. Or they're afraid that [the government is] going to take it from them. There's the two things that drive our business."
According to the Congressional Research Service, there are roughly twice as many guns per capita in the United States as there were in 1968: more than 300 million guns in all.
Gun sales have increased in recent years. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. gun-makers produced nearly 11 million guns in 2013, the year after the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre. That's twice as many as they made in 2010. |
So, we have 300 million guns in the US. If in the near future, all new guns are made as smart guns as was suggested, it would likely take ??? years to have a measurable impact on gun deaths, and I am not against smart guns.
Shot guns are on the market that hold 12 - 15 rounds. With 12 pellets per shell at 00 size, that's a lot of potential damage. Many hunting shot guns hold 5 shells, including one in the chamber, if not plugged for hunting laws. Certainly less damage than a assault type weapon with 30 rounds, but still will project 60 large pellets up to 1/3 of a mile in just less than 5 seconds.
People intent on doing harm to many others will find ways to maximize their efficiency. |

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Some estimates are that 265 children were killed by gun accidents in 2015. Smart guns would help. |

And as I said: "and I am not against smart guns."
With this qualifier - As long as the non-smart guns are not confiscated or become illegal to possess. |

Suppose he knows?
Quote: | The Dallas police chief stepped into America’s fierce gun rights debate on Monday when he said Texas state laws allowing civilians to carry firearms openly, as some did during a protest where five officers were killed, presented a growing law enforcement challenge.
...
Texas is known for its gun culture and state laws allow gun owners to carry their weapons in public. Some gun rights activists bring firearms to rallies as a political statement, as some did at Thursday’s march in Dallas.
“It is increasingly challenging when people have AR-15s (a type of rifle) slung over, and shootings occur in a crowd. And they begin running, and we don’t know if they are a shooter or not,” Brown said. “We don’t know who the ‘good guy’ versus who the ‘bad guy’ is, if everybody starts shooting.”
Seeing multiple people carrying rifles led police initially to believe they were under attack by multiple shooters. |

2 weeks ago, Isis announced that if they couldn't get guns, they'd drive trucks into the infidels. Today it appears that over 50 infidels were murdered in Nice by terrorists.
We'd better outlaw guns.... |

It appears that the video isn't readily available without revealing prerequisites. One has to question why that kind of response is required. |

The politically correct socialists, Hillary, Holland, and Obama fly in private jets, have government security, and spend millions on travel, hairdressers, and luxuries, but expect us to go without weapons. The response should be to close our borders to Sharia immigrants....period. |

As if that's going to prevent some brain damaged mutant from walking into a gun store in Nebraska, filling a shopping cart with AR-15's and blowing away a library full of Children. Oh, that's right a business man from New York is going to prevent that. |
