1. No-one is asking to take guns away from the good guys.
2. A solution is needed to discern who qualifies a as a good guy (background checks).
3. Everyone starts out a s a good guy until they lose it (gun owner registration, gun owner training and mental health checks) _________________ florian - ny22

Too funny how people don't pay attention and then put their own inventions out there. This particular thread started with a wise comment from GT--how are we losing the new generation of immigrants. A phenomena that is as old as immigration, and not limited to the Muslims. The Molly Maguires, the Mafia, the Mexican gangs in the current drug trade--serving American demand. Always a rather small portion of the immigrants, and the valid question is, what is the motivation?
Could it have anything to do with discrimination? It always has. What are the solutions. Only one of the posters here made an effort to identify root causes, and he is spot on:
Quote: | At fault was a mutual encapsulation and cultural segregation that led to the development of Turkish labourer ghettos. |
At some point we need to understand that alienation is one of the root causes, we cannot kill or deport the entire population of immigrants to find those we should rightly be afraid of, and we should address the underlying "encapsulation and cultural segregation" that feeds the alienatation.
I am not blind to the problems of immigration--just disgusted by bigotry. |

here is a new one not making the front pages much yet... appears to be a gun fanatic modeled after Right winger ted Bundy another serial killer....
Has everything the media would love but for some reason not making the headlines because he is a white gun lover, would be my take. to get any more details on him you have to find an obscure site that tells about where he has worked and his gun permits. IE his love of guns. pretty patheric that another Ted Bundy and the media is not putting him front page as another gun toting finatic. Would not want to offend the confederate flag people or the NRA would the media...

While there no doubt is planned segregation that feeds alienation, at the same time, most/many minorities prefer to be with like people and segregate themselves so that they can be surrounded by others just like them. (Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, Asians, etc.).
Even in the schools I worked, each minority group ate lunch with friends of the same minority group.
Of course, there are exceptions, but economics drive a lot of the segregation. Few middle/upper class folks of any ethnicity want to live in an economically depressed area. No developer wants to risk money, building higher priced homes in a lower class area. No middle or upper class area wants to have subsided or inexpensive housing in their neighborhood either, although some cities try to accomplish this, but they usually run into a lot of resistance for obvious reasons.
When local governments try to integrate their communities, it almost always fails because of what I mentioned above. Forced integration is usually a failure.
In Dallas, where I used to live, there was one city street, maybe 50 homes that was located in an middle/upper class area. Home values about $250 to 300K. This one block was all black in a vast area of mostly white people. Clearly, these folks could have lived in almost any neighborhood, but they preferred to be "together".
So, I would say that segregation by choice is pretty common.
Now, don't go nuts showing me how much undesirable segregation is going on. I know. I just wanted to offer another perspective that demonstrated how difficult it is to achieve the diversity that many think is so necessary. |

Events make it impossible to not 'speak out.' (Paper today.)
Another 'flash point' incident in the French city of Reims has re-ignited French outrage, causing demonstrations, at the latest threat to their liberal values by hard line Islamists.
A bikini clad sunbathing young woman (searching for that idyllic nonsense, no doubt) was first verbally assaulted by a 'gang' of five Muslim young women for displaying too much flesh, and then physically assaulted when she refused to 'cover up.' One of the gang has been detained by police, while they investigate further.
France now has seven million Muslims, many of whom refuse to integrate with, or accept French cultural values, and are increasingly taking a hard line stance. Some French politicians now share our governments concerns at this growing radicalism within their midst.
Four years ago, a poll by Le Monde found that 68% believed that their Muslim population was not integrated into French society. The situation could easily worsen, and get out of hand, Civilization and civilized behaviour is just a thin veneer, as 20th century European history so adequately demonstrated! |

Back on topic:
The indictment of the cop for murder is a long time coming. I am afraid that all the bottled-up feelings about police violence will be directed at this man, however incompetent he was for this job.
The real issue:
Cops are given guns to solve everyday problems - and I believe it drastically reduces their ability to deal with complex issues and their situational awareness. The assumption that every suspect in the most minor offense is armed always tempts an officer towards disproportionate use of force, period. _________________ florian - ny22

Ms. Harper, who divorced her husband a decade ago, appears to have been by far the most significant figure in her son’s troubled life; neighbors say he rarely left their apartment. Unlike his father, who said on television that he had no idea Mr. Harper-Mercer cared so deeply about guns, his mother was well aware of his fascination. In fact, she shared it: In a series of online postings over a decade, Ms. Harper, a nurse, said she kept numerous firearms in her home and expressed pride in her knowledge about them, as well as in her son’s expertise on the subject.

She also opened up about her difficulties raising a son who used to bang his head against the wall, and said that both she and her son struggled with Asperger’s syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder. She tried to counsel others whose children faced similar problems. All the while, she expressed hope that her son could lead a successful life in finance or as a filmmaker.
Ms. Harper did not respond to messages seeking comment.
In an online forum, answering a question about state gun laws several years ago, Ms. Harper took a jab at “lame states” that impose limits on keeping loaded firearms in the home, and noted that she had AR-15 and AK-47 semiautomatic rifles, along with a Glock handgun. She also indicated that her son, who lived with her, was well versed in guns, citing him as her source of information on gun laws, saying he “has much knowledge in this field.”
“I keep two full mags in my Glock case. And the ARs & AKs all have loaded mags,” Ms. Harper wrote. “No one will be ‘dropping’ by my house uninvited without acknowledgement.” |

yes the end of the fairness doctrine and the rise of hate radio et al fox. Rush was the major one that got his hate start with the fairness doctrine.
all these right wing loonies are right wing hate radio hate tv so called victims of the liberal media. Note even right wing hero Tim mcVeigh is a hero to many in the right wing party and he only allowed his comrades at Fox to interview him.
the above is the common theme. even from the top, as the new President was being sworn in to the USA the right wingers in the top positions held a meeting to make sure his lfe was going to be miserable. In fact making a pledge or oath. The right wing was not meeting to see how america could be made great, they were in a treason meeting. _________________ when good people stay silent the right wing are the only ones heard.

It is so funny that the haters--who rely on things like falsified videos of a miscarriage that they then blame on Planned Parenthood--are so quick to accuse others of anger. NW--we mean you. |
