So Bigot buddy, having outed himself with his language, and after pleading for constructive posts, makes up this kind of bullshit and attributes it to his hated "liberals":
Quote: | And I thought you leftists were in favor of suicide? Assisted at least. There's a nice green government job for a liberal, help save the planet, reduce overpopulation, end suffering and help develop tasty nutritious crackers to feed the planet. |
You are really disgusting. |

So is this Rightist. IMO, suicide by a rational person who has given his very best effort to solve his problems in other ways is nobody's business beyond his/her close family's. After all, it's HIS/HER damned life, not the state's. I'm sure there are many exceptions, but I can't think of any offhand.
Some would argue, validly, that the words "rational" and "suicide" are not compatible. But even given that, once you add the "assisted" part, implying proven medical benefit as an alternative to unavoidable, incredible, senseless, and often very protracted suffering by the whole family, it often becomes rational. MANY hospitals and physicians refuse to honor DNR and/or living will stipulations, so what other choice besides suicide do many terminally and horribly ill people have when facing some of the worst ways to die? And what difference besides the potential mess does it it matter by what tool the person offs himself? |

Why, are you planning on proving that statement wrong?
Don't do it! |

What's "wrong" about it is that I never said or implied it. That's why upyouwindsurf is "outta here", as the other thread says. Why he’d bother to invent a whole new secret identity just to end-run my killfile, then throw away that effort by continuing to invent faux posts right out in the open, escapes me. |

That reminds me of VP Biden's speech at NAACP. |

My problem is when the statistics are exaggerated, such as Pueno's numbers on Australia... |
I EXAGGERATED NOTHING. I quoted and cited the source. Go see for yourself.

O.K. Technically, not an an exaggeration. But, you cited gun confiscation as the reason for the drops in murders in Australia while violent crime (murders) dropped dramatically in the same period in other places (Minnesota...the only place I looked cause I was trying to replicated Canada). So, I find it cherry picking the data without looking at ALL of the reasons.

Interesting article. It actually discusses how statistics get skewed and cuts into the reasons behind it. Refreshing. It would be interesting to see how the suicide rates in Australia have also been affected by a very concerted effort by the Australian government in that same time period to provide comprehensive mental health care...which had been lagging for some time. |
