Too bad those people weren't armed. "The only thing that will stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," says Wayne LaPierre of the NRA.

Las Vegas police officers gunned down at pizza restaurant, one civilian killed

BY Nicole Hensley | NEW YORK DAILY NEWS | Published: Sunday, June 8, 2014

Two Las Vegas police officers and a civilian are dead after two shooters ambushed the cops at a pizza restaurant on Sunday afternoon and then got into a gunfight at a busy Walmart.

The two shooters, a man and woman, stormed into CiCi’s Pizza at around 11:20 a.m. and confronted two uniformed officers with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department eating pizza on a break and gunned them down.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports one of the shooters shouted, “This is the start of a revolution,” before killing one of the officers execution style.

The other officer died at a local hospital while in surgery, the Review-Journal wrote.

The killers stripped the officers’ bodies of their weapons and ammunition, shamelessly told a witness outside the restaurant they just killed two cops and walked over to a nearby Walmart to continue their rampage.

Once there, they yelled at everyone to get out of the store.

However, they shot and killed another victim that may have pulled out a concealed weapon and exchanged fire, the newspaper reported.

A grandmother shopping in the makeup aisle with her two teenage granddaughters told the paper she dropped to the floor and prayed when they heard several shots fired in the store.

The family sneaked out of the store when they could no longer see the shooters.

The shooters then retreated to the back of the store and killed themselves in an apparent suicide pact, said Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill at a press conference.

The police department sent text alerts to its officers to shroud their badges in honor of their fallen colleagues and to volunteer for shifts so no officer would ride solo during patrol.

A police motorcade is gearing up to escort the fallen officers to the coroner’s office.

It's not clear what led the shooters to go on a killing spree, said Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield, but "I think in any case where people are ambushed and shot it's upsetting to the public."

The identity of the shooters will be released by the Clark County coroner's office following an autopsy.

One of the shooters has been described as a tall, white male.

Both of the perps had been carrying large bags, but it’s not known at this time what was in the bags. A bomb squad was called to the scene to investigate its contents, the Review-Journal reported.

A Metro officer described their department as lucky because they have had so few officers killed in the agency’s history.

“In a town like this, with the criminals and scumbags we’re dealing with every day, you’re always wondering when something is going to happen,” Sgt. Henry Prendes told the paper.

The area surrounding the restaurant and Walmart are closed to the public as police investigate the shooting. Police are interviewing witnesses at a nearby clothing store.

There have been 20 officers with the agency killed on-duty, including today's deaths.

Nationwide, there have been 21 police officers killed by gunfire in the line of duty for 2014.

Pueno, I guess you didn't read the part where it said a private citizen with a concealed weapon opened fire on the suspects. He may have saved dozens of lives.

You mean the part that said "the good guy with a gun" was shot and killed by the bad guys?

That part?

What's curious, Mr. B, is your willingness to predict what might have happened: "He may have saved dozens of lives."

You don't know whether his actions did or didn't save any lives, so it's PURE speculation on your part.

You could just as easily speculate that if the bad guys had no guns, then this would not have happened at all. (Yes, yes..... they could have come in with knives or swords or axes or baseball bats or dynamite.)

You also glossed over the reporter's speculation: "...they shot and killed another victim that may have pulled out a concealed weapon and exchanged fire, the newspaper reported."

You treated that speculation as fact -- yet it was reported at the time as only a guess.

What I find most interesting about this event is the stark contrast it presents to Wayne LaPierre's assertion that "a good guy with a gun" is the antidote to "a bad guy with a gun."

Whether or not the private citizen with the gun was a good guy, he had a gun and was killed.

But no one can argue that two cops aren't "good guys with guns." Yet they were disarmed and executed.

People with brains should stop listening to Wayne LaPierre. He's fulla shit, and somebody needs to say it very loudly and very publicly.

Pueno, I'd really like to see your solution to the problem.

That part was probably omitted by his primary news source, The Matthews-Olbemann Report.

I'm not Pueno, but I don't think there is a solution. I think we just need to get used to it.

More feces from the horse's ass himself.

One solution, that I dislike, is Australia's solution.

I dislike it because like most people, I don't want to give up my bolt-action 22-caliber target rifle.

Another solution might be to require that all firearms be treated like automobiles (registration, inspection, insurance, periodic renewal) and all firearm owners/users be treated like drivers (minimum age, training, license, periodic renewal).

I certainly don't know if these are solutions -- and I don't claim that these are all-encompassing.
