No surprises from the blame everything on Obama--but we're not prejudiced--crowd:

Quote:
The President of the United States has NOTHING to do with a Federal benefit program paid for by Federally mandated "fees" and overseen by a Federal agency whose commissioners are appointed by the President? A program that has nearly tripled in cost on his watch? Is there nothing you hold him accountable for?

It would be helpful if those who post about government actually knew something about government--or actually checked the facts before they posted some attack on Obama. Any program--including this one--can only be administered within the discretion vested by either the original court settlement of the anti-trust lawsuit, or the last Congressional authorization, which was under Bush. Do some research into facts, not conservatively spun talking points, and actually try to make an argument. I know, it isn't the soul of brevity--but then it might be accurate.

No surprise that you all attack Pueno--he posts some facts and stands up to your bullying.

Thanks for that Bard, I wholeheartedly concur, I may not agree with you, Iso, and Mr. gybe, on every issue, but we are united by the singularly pure form of sailing we all share a passion for. Pueno, I think they have a political forum on Sailing Anarchy, maybe you would be more welcome over there. Your seemingly automatic ambushes on any and all of Brucie's posts were annoying, and small, odd as the guy was, he found joy in sailing and liked to talk about it. We have these diatribes here, and maybe if well aquainted with one another, over a post sesh beer or two. We're hangin' in boardshorts and bare feet, and you show up in a liesure suit and white patent leathers insisting to be included in the conversation. We all have lives, and then this other life also, Windsurfing!!, your presence here is as incongruous as a flag burner whose favorite bar is one at the American Legion.

Hiya, Joey.

Good to see that Mr. B. gave you some courage.

Back to the topic: Free cell phones from whatever source, taxpayers or rate payers, is a perfect example of a well intentioned program that has gotten out of control due to it's size and the level of fraud and abuse of the system that provides them. Home of the brave and land of the free doesn't mean you get it all for free. The entitled attitude and the largesse recieved from the plethora of federal and state programs to the "needy" have acted as a disincentive to work and behave as if there were no consequences for irresponsible behavior. The phone program is a small vice compared to the stuff that goes on with section 8 housing and NSP. NSP was part of the Dodd Frank bill and gave billions to cities across the country for free home improvements. New roofs, kitchens (including luxury stainless appliances) New bathrooms, sprinkler systems, sod, flooring etc. This is not hearsay, I'm not making this up. There are "needy" people getting all this free stuff that the rest of us pay for.NSP, another "well intentioned" gov't program run amok, maybe 15% of the recipients are deserving, eg. veteran with spouse in wheelchair due to a stroke or a double amputee war vet. The majority of this program is being abused by opportunists and lazy scammers. As a contractor, I have seen the dark underside of this boondoggle, it ain't pretty. In disbelief?? Google NSP for the city you live in and see for yourself.

Exactly, and you didn't even mention the (ACA) "Affordable Care Act", which in reality is the (CCA) "Care at any Cost Act".

Joe and NW--it helps if you pay attention to facts. I'll give you a few, courtesy of this week's New Yorker. The right yelled and screamed about TARP--a Bush proposal that only worked because Obama is a nerd. That bailout gave the banks $700 billion. Conservatives on this forum screamed mightily about the auto bail out--at $ 80 billion. Both interventions by the Federal government worked--unemployment and the collapse of housing would have been worse without intervention, and both funds have been substantially repaid. But your talk show folks get you riled up about a phone program that costs peanuts in comparison, and nothing from your taxes.

See:
https://projects.propublica.org/bailout/
and
http://projects.propublica.org/bailout/programs/3-automotive-industry-financing-program
It also might make you credible if you paid more attention to what matters.

Maybe Joe W. will tell us what talk radio host ginned him up about NSP. I had never heard of it, but after checking a little, I will repeat my advice about paying attention to what matters. Here's what it is:

Quote:
Neighborhood Stabilization Program 3
NSP3

The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 provided an additional $1 billion for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) that was originally established under the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008. HUD will award grants to 270 states and selected local governments to mitigate the negative impact of the nation's economic decline and housing market collapse and to stabilize and revitalize communities/areas hit the hardest. The regulations for NSP3 can be cited at 75 FR 64322.

State and Local NSP Allocations

NSP3 funds were allocated by a formula based on the number of foreclosures and vacancies in the 20 percent of U.S. neighborhoods (Census Tracts) with the highest rates of homes financed by a subprime mortgage, are delinquent, or are in foreclosure. The minimum grant amount was $1 million for non-state grantees and the basic allocation is adjusted to ensure that every state receives a minimum of $5 million. The net result is that these funds are highly targeted to communities with the most severe neighborhood problems associated with the foreclosure crisis. To find information on individual NSP grantees, including action plans, quarterly performance reports, and contact information click here.

Given that the housing market would have gone much further without Federal intervention, and the Feds "loaned" $700 billion in the TARP program, a billion to try to stabilize housing prices in poor neighborhoods--where the collapse in tax revenues is hammering local governments--seems like a very good idea to me. But since it was passed by Congress, I know you guys will blame it on Obama.

Joew could you tell us more about the fraud in the Sec.8 program?
I and my friends have been landlords in that program for 20 years. Between us we have rented to more than 200 single mothers or disabled older adults and only know of one case of fraud. He was subletting to roommates and collecting.
We had him arrested and the sec.8 people pursued him without pause.

Is Obama to blame for programs like the phones? They operate and rise or fall on his watch.
He is also the boss of the greatest military on earth. It rises and falls on his watch.Do you give him credit for the US militaries greatness?
How about Social Security? There is a major socialist program.does he get credit for it?
Violent crime has been dropping every year for 15 years. Obama get credit for that?
These are all inherited programs along with tens of thousands of others.
Does Obama get credit for the good ones? Or just blame for the stinkers that still operate on his watch?

Is that to say that Reagan is credited for doing a great thing but Bush is slammed because the free cellphone program ran outta control on his watch?

No, I bet not. The program magically was in control in December 2008 but wildly outta control and horribly abusive by February 2009.

Shouldn't you be howling about Ben Ghazzi, or something?

Face it. You and joey and others here desperately need some imagined offense to fuel your sense of outrage and indignation about our "socialist" president.
