It's a heavy, 3.75m long german built board. Pictures on http://www.yachtmovers.co.uk/sailboard.htm

Built in 1983 I believe (deduced from the serial number) with a logo of simply 'Sailboard'. I am uploading one picture here to save space, but more on the yachtmovers link above.

Sailboard was a brand back in the day, but I have to admit I don't remember that particular board. They actually made some good funboards for that time and had a world cup team as well if I recall correctly.

I thnk the full name of the brand was Sailboards Masterclass. My wifes first board was the 355 and my brother-in-law had the 380. I never saw one with the fixed maststep positions. The 355 and 380 had a mechanical mast track that used a pretty thick rope ( ~6 or 8mm ) around two pulleys with a pedal that provided a friction stop. Even the ones exported to the US had the labells Vor and Zu printed on them. Our boards were 1985 models so the one in the picture might from earlier. The first time my wife was planing in the straps was on her 355

... sounds exactly right. Very first ones 1982. The sails wore the same big "S" in them. I thought I remember also that brand being associated with the name Porsche, which doesn't make much sense.

One ugly mama board, obviously before mast-tracks were conceived.

Dude-i think I have one even older than you in my garage, its got the fixed mast base with the universal fixed on it too. No foot straps, a big old centerboard and a permanent fin, i think it says windglider on it but im not sure-its at my lake house so this summer i'll take a pic of it and post it up.
peace

Definitely a 1980s "Sailboard". Used to have the Sailboard Race : 280L with fully retractable center board; no straps; exact same pattern on top but red and blue. The Race was an excellent/ "fast" board in its days of regattas chasing closely behind the Crit D2 (a dream board to have in these days)... A nice specimen of this"era"...O.

Almost positive it is called a Vario - I had an identical board back in the 80's with those colors and design and it was a Vario.

Old thread, but not as much as the board itself. It' a Sailboard Vario.

My cousin and I used ours with great fun yesterday at the cottage. As we were on the water, someone with a wakeboard boat came by and asked if I knew "Yan". That's me. The guy is a friend I had not seen in 30 years. He tought it could be me as he remembered we had the exact same board and sail. He still uses his board at the cottage too!
