Shall we remind the righties about how many times McConnell has blocked a vote on raising the minimum wage? Hint--more than ten.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Tuesday it is cutting health insurance for more of its part-time workers, as the nation’s largest private employer takes steps to rein in rising health-care costs. The move will affect about 30,000 Wal-Mart employees who work fewer than 30 hours a week. The loss of coverage will be a large cut in compensation for the workers, who were previously getting more than 75% of their premiums paid by Wal-Mart and will now be responsible for the costs unless they qualify for government or other subsidies.

The company is also planning to raise premiums for all workers next year. About 40% of workers on its least expensive and most popular plan will now pay $21.90 per two-week pay period, a 20% increase, starting Jan. 1. Across all three plans, Wal-Mart said it estimates workers will pay an additional $10 a pay period. The average Wal-Mart hourly worker earns $11.81 an hour.

Wal-Mart’s decision is the latest in a string of retailers to move away from health insurance for part-time workers. Target Corp. said in January it would stop providing part-time employees with health insurance. The retailer cited insurance options available through public exchanges as the reason, saying health-insurance marketplaces could provide options part-time workers may prefer.

Home Depot Inc. last year ended health-care coverage for almost 20,000 part-time workers and instead directed them to insurance exchanges. In August, United Parcel Service Inc. said it was cutting coverage for workers’ spouses who had access to insurance through their own employers.

Holy smokes, you mean some of the of the largest contributors of the RNC would come out publicly to say this...........

holy s batman.. them right wingers must be awfully stupid to figure that one out.

Once again what does it say about the USA when the largest employer in our country employees (even before Obama took office) most of probably any company have to take government handouts because they do not make a living wage. What does that say about the US business model where the largest employer does not pay a living wage.

I believe any company over 1000 employees must hire people full time would be a good start. IE no more than 5% of their workforce be part time.

This was solidly predicted and briefed to the Congress years ago, according to to the Congressional Record, and to the President in that same time frame. No surprise here.

Obama came up with a game changer that is here to stay. Most people who live in the real world, including sensible Republicans, understand that:

Quote:
While Republicans in Congress shout, "Repeal Obamacare," GOP governors in many states have quietly accepted the law's major Medicaid expansion. Even if their party wins control of the Senate in the upcoming elections, they just don't see the law going away.

Nine Republican governors have expanded Medicaid for low-income people in their states, despite their own misgivings and adamant opposition from conservative legislators. Ohio Gov. John Kasich said of the repeal ideology: "I don't think that holds water against real flesh and blood and real improvements in people's lives."

The ACA is working as intended in these cases.
These companies offered expensive crappy ins to their people, leaving them nearly uninsured.
They opted to help out their people when the ACA stepped up to offer better coverage that their employees couldn't get because they were on inferior company plans.
Geez, those here buried in partisanship can't understand even simple things about the ACA. Always focused on phony gotchas.
I don't support the ACA but still live in the real world.

Let's raise it to $50 per hour. This should help the poor. I'm all for it. I whole heartedly think the conservative should take this position. The D's would have to go along with it too. It should be our October surprise, and we'll get 65 seats in the Senate!
