Just drove to Sherman Island Sunday and noticed a lot and I mean a lot of water hyacinths. Not only were they up against the shore but also mid river and everywhere in between. Just curious and partly bored, but anyone have any ideas as to why?

Sounds pretty, but I'll bet there's a downside. Do they make hyacinth fins?

the increased water flow this time of year is probably pushing the summer's bumper crop of water hyacinth out of the still backwaters into the main channels.

Combine this with the recent lack of wind. The coming storm should blow some of that stuff ashore.

Water hyacinths were originally imported for decorative ponds, once they get out in the wild they go crazy. This is why certain plants/animals/insects are banned, nothing to keep the population down.
