Older 85 cm Wide Starboard Formula Board - Fin?

Better to buy your fins used, in this case, since there is such a wide range.
For about $100, you can get just about any sized fin, mostly good foils, not competitive nowadays, but good enough.
I got a nice DebR-14Med that way.
Almost every racer has big fins to sell.

I ride a 60cm for 100cm wide and 76cm obo.
I ran in on a 9.0 and 9.2, no problem perfect.
Then I have a 50cm for 7.0.

65cm seems quite long, it'd point like crazy though but be slower and give your rear leg a workout.

Problem is we don't know OP's size, or his pumping ability/inclination.
For a big guy, a 70 is fine for early planing, if he's not active.
But I think a 50 is generally too small, as the board will tend to sink it's windward rail when you're in the rear straps.

Somewhere between the original owner and the secondhand shop, the 58 cm stock fin was replaced with a 65 cm Curtis G-10 fin. I can't afford a nicer fin right now, but I reckon I'll eventually try to get a molded fin in the 54 - 60 cm range.

In my desperate excitement after buying the board yesterday I took it out at Sanibel Causeway. The wind was a piddling 1-6 knots so I never got anywhere near planing or being able to tell if the fin was oversized. I did notice that most of the deck of the 135 liter board is awash at slow slogging speed. Hopefully the low volume won't be so noticeable at wind strengths closer to the planing threshold. (I'm hoping to get it going in about 10 knots.)

i've sailed similar boards to this one. it will be especially good for the i to i race. just gotta get some TOW with it. some of the molded fins coming stock with free race boards that may have been warrantied would be what i'd look for. lots of great designers have been going to cobra with their knowledge. thus, the stock molded fins these past 3-5 years have gotten very good.

I accepted a good fin-trade offer from another iWindsurf user, swapping my 65 cm Curtis for his 58 cm Finworks (pictured). I'll post my thoughts about both fins when I get the chance to try them.

subtle offset back will make it lift a bit less. is it vynlester, kinda blue? those were great in the boards i've used.
