Re: http://portofhoodriver.com/waterfront/CP/Naito%20Letter%20Sent%20102912.pdf

"We are dropping our requirement for exclusive use of the basin and the use of a buoy line that would restrict public access to the south end of the boat basin. We have been working with our insurance company and they will provide liability insurance for the cable park without a buoy line," the Naitos wrote. "By eliminating the buoy line and not otherwise restricting public access to the basin, any allegations that the cable park would violate the public use or public trust doctrines are moot."

This has to be among the most absurd pitches I've ever heard.

So...I can go paddle around inside the cable park when it is operating? Cool, I can use my paddle for defensive purposes to fend off the "cable heads" when they come near.

No insurance company would underwrite such a situation.

Let me get this straight:

The "Friends" got what they wanted, then they got greedy and started to demand more concessions, and also closed-door negotiations, so it fell apart and the "Friends'" victory evaporated.

Epic Fail! Embarassed

Street fight status on this debate has been reached. Looks more like an epic brawl to me than an epic fail either way. Both sides are really going for the throat. I dig it. Take the gloves off, let's do this for real.

Hey, at least they're passionate.

I am curious however about one thing, not being a Hood River "local". Can anyone tell me who this county commissioner is that is on the Naito's game plan?

As in, there is someone at the municipal government level with an economic interest in the outcome?

There is a County Commissioner who owns a business which I think is a potential tenant for the commercial office building planned. I also believe he is the leasing agent for the proposed building and consultant to Naito.

I'm not aware of any conflicting interest, or what County approval he has authority over which could effect the project. Are you?

He's a pretty smart guy and would think he'd have thought all this through.

I see no conflict of interest whatsoever if you say so.

I mean, if a county commissioner isn't directly involved with the approval process of the Port, why on earth would anyone think there was impropriety?

Said commissioner can't vote on it directly so no conflict of interest?

But this commissioner is a proponent of AND advisor to the Naitos? And a potential beneficiary of the development?

Must be a really smart guy to walk that line without being called out.

I believe that is correct, but not sure what he'd be "called out" on.

Exactly... hard to take seriously. Almost as if Naito is toying with / making fun of the proceedings.

His name is Maui Meyer. His real estate company is the exclusive leasing agent for the commercial properties of the development. He will also run the restaurant in the hotel. He is also actively trying to use his county commissioner position to outlaw vacation rentals in the county which just coincidentally would compete with the hotel.
