Do Something for Windsurfing in Rio 2016 Olympics
Annul the May ISAF Council Vote against Windsurfing. Do not let US Sailing and their 3 votes in May for kiting off the hook! Do not let the 16 other ISAF Council voters against windsurfing off the hook. US Sailing is having AGM meeting next week to discuss the issue. Please do something now, prior to ISAF Annual Meeting 1-11 November 2012 to support windsurfing, even if one design course windsurfing is not for you.
Why?

How?
Let US Sailing know how you feel about voting out windsurfing by writing a simple statement encouraging redress! Here are 4 emails readily available from the US Sailing website:
jakefish@ussailing.org Communications Director
jackgierhart@ussailing.org Executive Director
garyjobson1@verizon.net President
Vote:
Vote on petition below and email your ISAF MNA (Member National Authority) going to the ISAF Annual Meeting. Did you vote for world-wide Olympic windsurfing? Please vote , windsurfers need to get the petition over 35,000! It's 32,000 about now.

This is about windsurfing's future in the USA and internationally on a fair playing surface vs. prejudiced sailing politics. Do what is right for worldwide sailing, not US potential kiting medals in 2016 Rios.

It should never have ended-up like this. The logical thing would have been to dump one of the older poorly supported classes ,keep windsurfing, and add kiting.
But, unfortunately, ISAF ( and most sailing organizations in the 'old world) are run by bunch of old mono-hull fuddy-duddies that have disliked windsurfing from the beginning. They were very quick to dump the multi-hull classes in a similar 'coup' some years ago. |

I support windsurfing in the Olympics but it is clearly one of those " poorly supported classes "in recent years.
I note the lack of sailor support or sponsors in all types of windsurfing competition.
We did this to ourselves. |

This is what I sent as an email...
"Sir,
I am a software engineer from India who turned into a Windsurfer training for Olympics in USA.
After seeing and experiencing Windsurfing in USA, I fell in love with the sport.
I progressed so rapidly that I felt that I had a chance to compete in 2016 Olympics.
After dedicating all my effort and material for windsurf training, I happened to know that Windsurfing was voted out of 2016 Olympics.
It was heart breaking for all wanna be Olympians.
I am having this dream of promoting windsurfing in India. If windsurfing is not even qualified for Olympics, how would it get promoted in potential countries like India and China.
Remember, most of the Windsurfing gears are made in China!!!
KiteSurfing is not even an option in very populated countries like India. It would be a Hazard for public.
Regular kiting (from the land) is already banned in all beaches in Southern India.
For the sake of the enlightening sport and for the young generation who are already in the Olympic program and for the kids who could not risk themselves in learning kitesurfing, please bring back Windsurfing for 2016 Olympics.
Thanks and Regards,
DevaPrakash Ganapathi" |
