Yep, I was trying to get enough sailors and kiters together to nab it and claim salvage rights, but it's hard to communicate on the water.

Yeah, those AC 45's and this 72 must be like sailing a Starboard Serenity in 27 mph winds and a 7 meter sail.

That's potentially a 10m dollar catapult. I don't know what they were thinking putting the boat through those trials in yesterday's conditions. It was the strongest ebb I have been windsurfing in the bay since I moved here a year ago... awesome windsurfing though.

Oracle boat capsize- NBC news link with good video.

First video shows the awesome windsurfing but apparently not sailing conditions! From the overhead helicopter shot you can really see the almost frightening speed of the ebb current.

Aren't those AC boats, 45 and 72, designed for 15 knot winds?
Should they be ripping around in 5 knots ebbs and 30 mph gusts?
In gusts of 21mph, slightly flood tide, they pitchpoled the RussellC boat AND one of the Chinese boats, while the Italian Rossi boat stood on one pontoon at 45 degrees for well over 20 seconds.
8th day of testing, pushing the limts, putting on a show for the crowd, because the 2d design is almost ready for testing.

I guess they aren't too easy to right. The capsize itself was pretty low speed, but no recovery possible with that much wind--and that big a sail and mast.
